About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel the journey of life with an open mind and open heart

ABOUT ME

This is not for me to teach, but for you to learn :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

After one year on the CouchSurfing network I have made some very good friends and build great couchsurfing experiences of surfing, partying, learning all about other surfers and their adventures in travel :)

Interests

I love life and learning! I enjoy travelling, experiencing new cultures and new ways of living - getting to know interesting new people and making great new friends :)

I've always been interested in learning languages, since growing up in a trilingual environment. It's great fun speaking different languages with friends and learning new ways of communicating. After taking a course in Irish Sign Language I discovered a whole new world of communication and connecting with people - this encouraged me to use many languages in my work and has nurtured my desire to learn more about overcoming barriers in communication at University.

Like everything in life, cooking is a continuous experiment and always an adventure! I am passionate about cooking and healthy eating - I really enjoy cooking with friends, experimenting with different foods and dishes, and hosting friends for dinner. Come and share my kitchen with me! And I'm always more than happy to share some Irish cuisine with you :)

I'm also a big fan of music from all different parts of the world. Strangely enough I seem to have a preference for Irish music, but I'm forever discovering new music from around the world that awakens a new interest!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm enthusiastic about world cinema - subtitled films seem to hold my attention ;) I've become a fan of Almodóvar and Spanish film in general. German cinema I also find fascinating from an historical and cultural perspective.

Music is the soundtrack to our lives and it has invariably been an important aspect of mine. Whether it's infectiously happy, dramatically melancholy or intensely angry; every song tells a story, captures a feeling and is open to subjective inerpretation. I enjoy listening to a worldwide spectrum of music and continually learning new musical influences.

Personal inspirations have come from Damien Rice, Mick Flannery, Lisa Hannigan, Glen Hansard and the Frames, Cathy Davey, Imelda May, Sinéad O'Connor, Kila, the Pogues as well as many local artists from Ireland - Ray Lamontagne, Ben Harper, Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Manu Chao, Ojos de Brujo, Les Cowboys Fringants, Balken Beat Box, Gotan Project and many others from around the world. I have to admit to also having an affinity to the Queens of the Stone Age and Incubus - rock on! :-P

Old and new; almost every day I discover a new song that catches my ear :)

And when I don't have my head stuck in subject related academic books (this is a college requirement, but also extremely interesting!) I enjoy reading biographies, books on life sciences and psychology.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Life is a journey and my travels have in turn shaped my life. I traveled to Egypt in 2006 with my best friend from childhood, Aileen. There we took a two-day safari through the Saharan desert and during this trek through the Black Desert I climbed a small mountain, where I had an inspirational experience and learned something very important about my place in this world - I have yet to find the appropriate words to describe this but it has forged my thinking and practice ever since. It this has given me a hunger to learn more about life and to experience as much as possible on this great journey - on the dusty road to an unbounded horizon.
