I'm currently extending the 'gap year' I began almost two years ago (whilst I'm still young enough!!), from my job as a primary teacher in the UK, and am travelling around the world. Although mostly touring around Asia, since leaving the UK I have been to: France, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the USA.

I've been based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for the last 12 months and jumping off doing trips from here. But I'm now off on the rest of my journey and heading to New Zealand and the USA before returning to reality in the UK in a few months!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm keen to host (when I return to my own home) and be hosted because meeting people is a real spice to life! Being able to share interests and local knowledge helps us get the best out of our experiences.

Interests

I love reading - history, crime, fantasy, biography.
I am enthusiastic about history and ancient history so often visit sites of historic interest as well as museums - travel has provided so many diverse opportunities for this!
I like cooking even though I'm not outstanding, I'll have a go.
I'm a happy motorbiker (more of a scooter in Asia!) and car driver and have dream road trips I want to do.
I love going to live music events and my tastes are varied.

Music, Movies, and Books

Although music tastes are varied, I probably listen to rock/pop and country the most. Adore the little known British band Mad Dog McCrea, but currently listen to anything and everything from Coldplay, Maroon 5, Adele ... back to the old greats like Queen, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart - even Mozart and Strauss!
Movies: adventure, thriller (but NOT too much gore and grim death/violence), comedy, fantasy. Last 4 films I saw and liked: Into The Woods, Fast & Furious 7, Star Wars VII and Divergent.
Reading is my relaxation and some of my favourite authors of the last year are: Michael Connelly, David Baldacci, Ben Aaronovitch, Brandon Sanderson, Pat Rothfuss, Michelle Paver... actually it's hard to stop the list. Let's just say I love books!
