About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Move to New York! Have an apartment there! And a job!
ABOUT ME
I'm in the process of moving to New York. Once I'm there and have an apartment with a couch, I will happily make it available for surfers. Until I find a place, I am hoping that my New York friends--and perhaps the good people of couchsurfing?--will let me crash with them so that I do not have to hang out in a cardboard box in Union Square.
Interests
I am most interested in: stories, politics, and food.
I get dangerously absorbed by well-written books, plays, movies, and TV. I want to work for a civil liberties nonprofit until I go to law school. (Then, after law school, I will probably want to work for a civil liberties nonprofit again.) I cook a lot--right now I'm learning about non-Moroccan Sephardic cooking. I don't have anything against Moroccan Jewish food, but I already know a fair amount about it.
A more random assembly of things I like might include: manatees, Dinosaur Comics, PMOG, dangly earrings, figuring out the perfect present for someone, jokes involving the word "hat," and so forth and so on.

Music, Movies, and Books
A severely inadequate list:
The Sting, American Beauty, Chinatown, Full Metal Jacket, An American in Paris, The Italian Job (with Michael Caine, not Marky Mark). In TV, I am currently devoted to Weeds and The Office (US).
Indie stuff (like Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, Belle and Sebastian, Aimee Mann, Margot and the Nuclear So-and-So's, etc.), musicals (esp. Sondheim, Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein), jazz.
Lots of Shakespeare (though not Two Gentlemen of Verona), George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, Nabokov. Modernist stuff, too, especially The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would be happy to share what I know about cooking... and even happier to learn more about it.
I also really love talking about writing. And I'm going to return to my profile to write more tomorrow, because I'm desperately sleepy right now.
