About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I will not go softly into those khaki chinos, nor sails the seas of mediocrity...
ABOUT ME
I am a Canadian who is keenly interested in new experiences, meeting new people and learning new things. I lived in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for five years as an English teacher and traveled around south-east Asia whenever granted the opportunity. I am now in the process of migrating to Australia for the benefit of my son, who is an Aussie-Canuck. He is an amazing little boy who is the center point of my life and is loved by all who meet him.
PHILOSOPHY
The mind is like a parachute - it works best when open. I am much more inclined to find the meaning in the events of my life as opposed to assuming that things are largely meaningless. And life is all about choice. "You must choose...but choose wisely."
Laughter is medicine for the soul. And in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I must confess that I am brand new to this organization, though I have been recommended by friends. I am certainly interested in helping projects like these develop further.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None as of yet. I am hoping this will change! :)
Interests
I am interested in physical arts such as Kung Fu, Yoga, belly, African, and Salsa dancing. I love being on stage and participating in amateur theatre. I have a keen interest in Scuba (am a qualified PADI divemaster). I am also interested in the preservation of the environment and spreading the awareness of such to people wherever I travel. And I love new conversation!

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite authors - JRR Tolkien and Roald Dahl. Interested in books that compliment me for being an attentive reader. Same goes for movies. I love things with a twist. I am interested in all sorts of music but I like to stay away from specific genres. However, the "genres" I most listen to are world music, alternative and classic rock, chillout, and electronic. I am also developing my interest in Classical.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I visited the amusement park outside of Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei. Brunei is a tiny sultanate on the island of Borneo - a truly wonderful island. The sultan is one of the richest rulers of the world due to the massive oil resources in his territory. Consequently no one there pays tax and everyone gets a pension. The sultan built an amusement park for his citizens that initially was absolutely free (though now it is about $7US for admission). While travelling through Borneo, my friend and I though we would check this amusement park out. We were there for about 4 hours and in that time, we saw about 4 other patrons. It was this vast, fairly new and immaculately kept amusment park, all lit up for the evenings festivities WITH NO ONE IN IT. I rode the roller coaster four times without setting foot on the ground. Imagine doing the log-ride in semi-darkness and all is quiet except the whir of the car your are sitting in, the splash of the water as you hit it, and the squealing of only the friend beside you. To make it all the more strange, after we disembarked the rides and walked in near silence to the next ride. Except when they had the loudspeakers going - Arabic prayer music at full volume, hauntingly echoing across the park. It was truly one of the most strange experiences I have ever had.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have experience teaching Kung Fu, Yoga (ashtanga mostly), belly dance and English grammar (maybe not so exciting). I am interested in learning anything I don't already know. I would love to learn how to play musical instruments ( I have a little experience with djembe drumming and played piano as a child), specifically the bass guitar or the flute.
