ABOUT ME
Hi there,
My name is Florian FAIVRE D'ARCIER, I'm French and currently 21 yo.
Back over there, I'm an engineering student in 4th year; who used to horse ride a fair bit, but I had to moderate this passion since I moved to Lyon (big city) for my studies.
I was born in Lyon grew up there for about 10 years, and then we (my family and I) moved to Thonon-les-bains a pretty city, just near the famous EVIAN spring water origin. Just in front of Switzerland, we're happily sharing with them the GORGEOUS lake of Geneva, from which I'm only 100m away. In winter we also share the snowy mountains all around our place, and it's always heaps of good rides. It's been 12 years I'm living there, and I'm still in love with the natural environment surrounding my home place.
Unfortunately (but I'm still happy ;) I had to move back to Lyon in order to study Engineering.
My degree is generalist which means that I'm not specialized; I'm doing mechanical (maybe the biggest part), as well as electrical, material, programming...
I'm enjoying these studies (kind of :p), but I'm missing the practical work than my dad as a builder made my love.
I think I'm pretty handy thanks to what I've learned with him, and I do love to use my hand when my head is overheating (exam period...).
My dad is married to my Mum (I kid you not) who is working as a nurse.
I have 5 siblings (Julien 24, Marie 20, Benjamin 18, Thao 16, Nhung 11).
As you can see my two last sisters do not sound French and that’s because they are adopted from Viet-Nam (Thao at 2yo, Nhung at 4yo).
Two years ago, we also welcome three foster kids (Yanïs 6, Anaïs 5 and Ryan 1.5) with who we have some challenging times but most of all a lot of fun and we all are really pride to watch them growing so well in a safe environment.
I think that’s it… Oh no, why I’m in Australia?
I arrived Oz last Jun, and started in July my fourth engineering academic year (exchange) at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
In the middle of the first (and hectic) semester, I wanted to get out of the city and to share a bit of nature living.
I heard about Woofing, and I finally ended up registering on the HelpExchange web site; one week later, I started my first stay.
I’ll not describe that experience here, but I definitely encourage you to experience such an adventure (if not done already).
I loved it so much than straight after my last exam (Nov), I flew to NZ to do another stay! I did a couple more during the huge (4months) summer break, and I haven’t been disappointed.
I’ve just arrived Cairns, and I’ll leave again in a couple of days, and rather than going in a back pack, I’d like to try CouchSurfing, from which I’ve heard a lot of positive experiences.
Well, that’s the biggest description I’ve ever done, and despite the mistakes that you may find, I’m glad to see that my English writing is becoming much more fluent (finally :p).
Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
PHILOSOPHY
Used to be muddled, but I'm now thinking that the simpler the better.
And most of all, curiosity is essential.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
As I said in my description, I'd like to experience CouchSurfing, after few of my friends recommended it to me. I've done some HelpX (WOOFING), and I this idea of meeting new mates during travelling has changed the way I'm moving around. In HelpX, I can work in echange of meal and accomodation, but I'm unfortunately unable to offer any couch at the moment, since I'm renting a flat for my studies. However, if I enjoy the experience, I'll be more than happy to welcome you all in my futur house (may be in a while, but will be a great home for sure :)). I hope I've answered the question.
