Hi - Florian here !

32-year-old French that just resigned at the end of 2024 from my job for getting on a solo trip ! I have been working for 9 years into different financial jobs (my last one, was CFO for very nice & gourmet burger restaurants in France called "PNY" - pnyburger on Insta if you wanna check out ; and that stands for "Paris New York") and always had in a corner of my head the idea of a travelling gap year : HERE I AM !

I really love to travel and discover new countries and culture. I think I have been lucky to enter studies that allowed me to go abroad ; my very first trip was a educational mission for a month in Peru with 10 people from my school during summer holidays, that was followed by a 2 weeks trip through the country.

Currently travelling for few months through all Americas (Canada, US, Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia)
Live in Paris for more than 10 years

- US (done) : NYC (April), Miami (April)
- Mexico (done & currently) : Mexico City (April, July, October to December)

- Colombia (done) : July, August, September)

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I'm a very new member of CS (registered here on Feb25) and would be very eager to be part of this community and share moments. One objective of this 2025 trip, and I believe the most important, is to focus on human experiences and meet and share time with people from where I'm travelling ; not super interested into going from hostels to hostels and only meet with backpackers (even though sometimes I'm doing it).

This is the reason I decided to do fewer countries but better : in a year I've decided to go to Canada, Guatemala, Panama and Colombia ; and I have decided to be on Couchsurfing and Workaway (for the longer experiences about a month).

This is also the reason that I have not that many references/friends for now. Though I got now 6 from my first experiences in Vancouver, Victoria and NYC as guest and one from a trip I've made with Thomas in Yukon for a weekend getaway :) and actually all my closer friends (that already did long and crazy trip after being graduated) were using it during their 20's but not really anymore.

To sum up, yes I'm on Couchsurfing for meeting people, having true connection when travelling and spend good time ! Heard from my closer friends that CS was one of the best way of having the best memories and human experiences :)

Movies :
I would say that some of my top movies are : Mommy (Xavier Dolan), Parasite (Bong Joon-Ho), Seven pounds (Gabriele Muccino), Triangle of sadness (Ruben Ostlund), ...
I'm quiet into theatre and following all the new movies, used to go like twice a month in theatre in Paris. So since I left I would like to watch Mickey17 (the new one from Bong Joon-Ho ; Parasites), The Substance, The Brutalist (2025 Oscar best actor for Adrien Brody) :)
Also while in Yukon in February, there was a film festival in Whitehorse and I went for a documentary NO OTHER LAND - sadly breathtaking one but I would recommand you to watch it without being political or whatever (and they also won the 2025 Oscar best documentary ; even though I don't know if it will help change the situation, just people being more aware).

Books :
Le Comte de Monte Cristo is my objective of reading during this trip !

Music :
I'm pretty into everything, not having a specific type of musics. And what I like (especially when travelling and meeting new people) is when people share sounds with me and I have just a personnal playlist on Spotify that is then super eclectic :)
Some of the groups/singers I like would be : Orelsan, Enfant Sauvage, The Blaze, Lomepal, Julien Doré, ... (here it is a French selection that I could then make you discover)

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

* Maybe just resigned from my job end of 2024, left my apartment, put all my stuff at my parents place hometown and took just a one-way ticket to Canada ! First time as a solo traveling, let's see ! For now I don't regret it and it has been only few weeks

* Amazing I don't know but funny definitely yes ! Forgot my passport under the bed in my hotel in Los Galapagos. But when I realized we just came back by boat to another island (5 hour boat trip) and we had our plane to go back to Quito in the morning. Fortunataly we were on small islands : I change my flight in the afternoon, and the hotel put my passport on the first plane from the island I forgot the passport. Then when I arrived at the airport of my island I went to a desk and just took it back. Lucky me !

* Hiking the second highest peak of Taiwan (during my student exchange) : Xueshan / Snow Mountain at 3 886m. Not the highest altitude since in Quito I did the Rucu Pichincha 4 784m but was easier since starting from 3 945m above the city of Quito - Ecuador. Though this was almost same than Mont Blanc in France (highest peak)

* I did acting-class for five years and had the chance to perform a play at Festival d'Avignon OFF 2024 "RING" of Leonore Confino. This is a very famous international theatre festival, it was really amazing ! I don't know if I'll get again the opportunituy to do it but definitely will continue to do play once I'm back in France.

* And definitely the hike I've done in Guatemala mid-May for Acatenango volcano ! It's inactive but facing Fuego volcano, which is active... It was an overnight hiking and we got very lucky with the weather and we experienced crazy eruptions/explosions. I can't still believe how I could feel into the sound of the explosions. Watching Fuego active volcano erupting is for sure among by best 5 lifetime memories.

I'm very into hiking, theatre, cooking, acting-class, travelling, ...
I think cooking is always a great way to introduce a culture so if we have time I would cook a French dish !
Really like to go into deep discussion around a drink or a nice meal or a nice view :)
