About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Settle down in Budapest and enjoy the summer!

ABOUT ME

It was during my last two years in School that I decided I needed to see something outside the UK. The dream was to buy a reliable camper, learn some skills, and keep making money on the road. The reality was a cramped van with the mechanical equivalent of Leprosy, that would find the most remote areas of Europe (such as the Desert of Tabernas) to break down in. Practising our money making skills took second precedent to spending the cash that we had taken with us on strong alcohol and stupid souvenirs. On a blistering day in Sevilla, with no money or food, no idea how to obtain these, and great holes appearing in the floor of our camper, we finally stopped driving and started travelling.

Everything has just been a progression from there :)

I've been unable to quash this feeling of utter gratitude to everyone who has helped me on my journey. Even those who I didn't find shared interests with, who had different humour, opinions or habits, those who I could find no common ground with, still opened their doors to help a stranger. I'm so amazed and thankful at how altruistic people are, no matter what you're relationship with them is.

PHILOSOPHY

You will never have other peoples experiences, and its mostly quite unsatisfying trying, but you may as well make your own.

I love being hungry, cold, tired as much as being happy, relaxed, etc. Every emotion and feeling is such a beautiful and integral part of being alive.

And i have really boundless optimism, I wouldn't have made it so far without it :)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to host a quirky assortment of people in my camper. I hosted in Leeds, and now I'm starting to host in Budapest!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I try and host as many people as possible.

After a terrible first experience (hosted by a 40-something year old gay man), and a slightly awful second (last minute cancellation on a snowy 2nd of January in Poland), I was about to give this thing up for quits. Since then, however, I've met so many wonderful and different people, I could never not be addicted to hosting and surfing.

Interests

There's a lot about travelling I love.

I love standing cold and hungry in the rain, with no idea of how i'll get further or where i'll sleep. Truly alive feeling.

I love gritting my teeth and just getting the hell back onto the road.

I love the fear before randomly throwing yourself into a group of people you've never met before (my often used alternative to CS)

I love closing their door behind me the next morning having made a great friend I had no idea existed 24 hours before

I love late night chats about life, love, history, politics. I'm truly privileged to have been able to spend so many nights, under the stars, with a few bottles of wine and a conversation about anything.

I love visiting places I read about in story books and novels years ago.

Music, Movies & Books

I enjoy most movies.
I go through phases of watching films from different countries. I love Eastern European cinema, especially films such as Before the Rain and Underground, but I also have a soft spot for trashy 90's action movies. Pretty much anything is good. I grew up without a Tv, so special effects still blow me away.

I love all those attempts to fuse traditional music with modern pop. 90% is hilariously cheesy and bad, 10% is actually quite good. I'm another CS leonard cohen fan.

I love reading. I couldn't even begin to say what I like...

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Seeing my family after two years on the road.
