About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Right now I'm just a year out of college and hoping I can figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life, and have a good time doing it. Traveling should (hopefully!) be a huge part of that, because it really helps me take a step back and assess.

ABOUT ME

Oh boy. These are the hard parts, no? Well, like I said, I recently (a year already? damn.) graduated from college and am working in IT in New York, which I like. But I'm currently trying to decide if I want to do this, or something else, for the rest of my life. Not that I have to tie myself to anything, but I'd like to have more of a goal to work towards.

Mostly I just want to find a way to have a rewarding life, find happiness, and not get bored. What else is there?

PHILOSOPHY

Take it one day at a time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to CouchSurfing--a friend recommended it for an upcoming trip, and I think it sounds like a great idea for a lot of reasons. First is the community, of course. But it's also great to be able to meet up with locals where you're staying, as they are the only ones who REALLY know the area, no matter where you are. It's not that I want to save money, per se, it's that I'd like to connect on a more personal level. I like to travel alone, and am very independent on the road, so this strikes me as the perfect middle ground.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Zero! But looking forward to building up my CS resume...

Interests

I love music, first and foremost, and I blog about it over at http://twodayoldshit.blogspot.com. My other major love in life is cooking, which I try to do as much as possible. Also, I'm a big Mac nerd, but I'm not a total elitist about it like their commercials would have you think.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music lately: The Avett Brothers, Alphabeat, The Kinks, Jay-Z, the Pharcyde, Rhymefest, Aretha Franklin, The Band, Arcade Fire, Cloud Cult, The Beatles, De La Soul, Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams, Frightened Rabbitt, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, 1990s, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric, New Pornographers, Motown classics, The Roots, I could go on but I'll stop here.

I haven't been to the movies in forever! Down by Law, The Last Waltz, Live Forever, Dirty Pretty Things, Wating for Guffman, Bad Education, Withnail and I are some old favorites that come to mind.

The last book I read was Jacques Pepin's memoir The Apprentice. Can't recommend it enough even if you think it's something you're not interested in, there's something for everyone in there.

Teach, Learn, Share

1) If your computer is acting up, restart it. Really. Fixes 85% of the things that it's doing to piss you off.

2) Learn to make your own tomato sauce. It costs less, it tastes 100 times better, and once you do it a few times it takes only a few more minutes than the jar, but yields a ton more sauce (freeze it and you're good to go for next time!) A serious quality of life improvement.
