About Me

I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and because my Korean parents believed in learning through travel and cultural exchange, they took my brothers and I to the Middle East and other places around the world during summer breaks. Those trips made me deeply passionate for travel and cultural exchange. I am a first-year student at Minerva Schools at KGI, a university that aims to restart higher education by making it about effective learning rather than teaching. I plan to study social sciences, and in the next four years of my college education, my cohort will travel to seven cities across the world.

I love exploring new places, learning languages and dancing hip hop in Youtube-famous dance studios (although I'm not Youtube famous). I am very #open-minded to different ways of life, and I'm excited to become part of the Couchsurfing community!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I would really love to meet and form friendships with people from all over the world, with different backgrounds and experiences, who share my open-mindedness and international mindset. I really hope that becoming part of the Couchsurfing community will help me grow as a person, thinker and citizen of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: r&b, kpop/khiphop, Pentatonix-- anything that is my favorite
Movies: Interstellar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Unusual Suspect-- most movies unless they suck
Books: Sherlock Holmes-- I definitely read often but have a bad memory

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In my freshman year of high school, I decided to take a break from high school to travel. I ended up dropping out and moving back to my parents' homeland of South Korea at 14 to pursue self-education and experiential learning rather than traditional education. Now I'm in college, without having even completed a single semester of high school.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Korean. I would like to learn Arabic and German. I can share my experiences in travel, self-learning, unconventional education and learning dance.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, China, India, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Palestine, South Korea, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
