About Me

I teach, I learn, I travel and I cook. And eat. And drink good beer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I once read these lines in a book about travels: 'In twenty-five years of wandering the world, I have learned two things: the first is that when you travel, at some point you will find yourself in a dire predicament - out of money, out of food, unable to find a hotel room, lost in a big city or on a remote trail, stranded in the middle of nowhere. The second is that someone will miraculously emerge to take care of you - to lend you money, feed you, put you up for a night, lead you to where you want to go. Whatever the situation, dramatic or mundane, some stranger will save you".
I guess Couchsurfing fits into the idea of a stranger saving you.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m not a great fan of earphones - I much prefer live music, of any kind.

I don't like going to the cinema because I hate the sound of people munching on popcorn and there is ALWAYS someone very tall or with big curly hair blocking my sight. That said, I love to watch films at home or at open air cinemas.

One of my favourite recent reads was ‘Eat, pray, love’ by Elizabeth Gilbert - she’s an amazing storyteller!
I’m currently reading ‘Snow Falling on Cedars’ by David Gutterson, but I’m finding it quite slow.
I read quite a lot of non fiction, especially about linguistics, wellbeing and society.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I skied across three valleys in the Dolomites in less than an hour to get to the car and drive back to the valley where my dad was waiting for me having broken his foot. It was my first time ever driving in the snow, plus it was a very narrow and winding mountain road and it was dark. I was so nervous but my dad and I both got back home safe!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Besides the mainstream offers to cook, drink and practice a number of languages, I can walk the dog and take care of your plants if you have either one.
