About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To hear more stories.

ABOUT ME

I’m a writer, and interested in travel, port cities, religion, literature, food, mountains, and the sea. I also love running up stairs (have done a few tower-climbing races) so please recommend the longest staircase on your city!

PHILOSOPHY:

To adopt the wide-eyed childlike mentality of a traveller everyday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sadly I am unable to offer a couch at the moment. However, I am more than happy to meet visitors!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed through the fringes of Eastern Europe, coasted around the Black Sea, and spent an amazing week in Kyrgyzstan.

Interests

Big ideas, broad minds and long walks. Reading and writing; sports (particularly football) and music (particularly jazz); politics and philosophy. All the little things that distinguish cultures from one another.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
Jazz and classical, and anything that can be danced to. I play the trombone and the piano.

Books
Numerous. Some of those I can reach from where I sit writing this: a collection of Kapuscinski; Dostoevsky; Shakespeare; Orwell essays and letters; some theology; assorted Camus essays and short stories; a book about Foucault; Jeanette Winterson, and Eduardo Galleano.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelled around the former USSR with the Archbishop of Canterbury

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught English as a foreign language and enjoy helping others improve their spoken and written English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

English language help (with a very English accent) and an eagerness to listen to stories.

Countries I’ve Visited

Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican City State
