My instructor's vertical farms (CEA(controlled environment agriculture)) are based on my experience with multitrophic polyculture (biomimicry) and just as important, nutrient recycling. I believe that in China and other developing countries, CEA's will be the norm due to pollution (water/ air/ soil) but should be used as sparingly as possible esp. in developed countries with still decent soil. I doubt CEA's esp. Ag lighting would be as advanced as it is if not for the formerly clandestine marijuana industry and now taken as a "high-tech" is simply a glitzy fad.
