Sobre mí

I teach English for a living. Aside from that I mostly read, learn Dutch, code, or play guitar (badly).

I also try to use science to increase my sanity level in any way possible, every day — which is hard, considering every one of us is basically a lump of intellect bolted onto a monkey.

I'm an aspiring rationalist, utilitarian, liberal, skeptic, and atheist. I'm also (mostly) vegetarian.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I want to meet people from around the world to talk to, and to break away from the day to day. I'm generally an introvert, but my introversion tends to wax and wane. I also find that people sometimes have interesting things to tell me, and are sometimes willing to listen. Who knew.

Intereses

Learning how the world works, be it on the fundamental (quantum physics) or macro level (politics, economics). Also languages.

Música, películas y libros

Music: classic rock. Most of it. But mostly The Rolling Stones.

Movies: "Spring Breakers", "Fight Club", "After Hours", "Princess Bride", "Stalker" - not a big fan of films in general, but I like the ones that evoke the feeling of not being able to sleep after a long, tiring day.

Books: "Good Soldier Svejk" by Jaroslav Hasek, "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, "Influence" by Robert Cialdini, "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality" by Eliezer Yudkowsky, "The Feynman Lectures on Physics" by guess who, "The Global Minotaur" by Yanis Varoufakis, "The Contortionist's Handbook" by Craig Clevenger, "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk, "The Prince" by Niccolò Machiavelli, "The Martian" by Andy Weir — I like books that make me question my assumptions, and ones which feel slightly ethereal.

Video games: "The Beginner's Guide", "The Longest Journey", "Portal", "Syberia", "Fallout New Vegas", "Else Heart.Break()" - things that jump from my memory and my Steam list. I like games that were created to express something. Anything. Or, in case of Portal, were just masterfully put together.

Algo increíble que he hecho

...read a lot of Reddit? Apart from that I've somehow managed to find a job I really like whilst a teenager which allows me to meet all sorts of people and have interesting conversations with them. And also boring conversations, admittedly. You can't always strike gold.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I know bucketloads of useless crap. I've wasted an embarrassing amount of time on Wikipedia. If you're interested in telling me about your country, or hearing about mine, I'm happy.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

Myself! And what more could you ask for, really? I also like to talk about politics, history and many other things. I'm very interested in learning about you and your country/city, and can tell you whatever you want about mine.
