About Me

Hi there,

my name is Franzisca and if anyone asks what I'm doing I tell them that I travel. Not holiday, not vacation. Travel. It has been my life for the past two years, when I decided to quit my ongoing PhD in Physics, totally overworked, and to explore other countries instead. I go rather slow, usually staying in a place in the countryside for several weeks, although I do occasionally visit cities in between and that's where I thought Couchsurfing could come in handy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been visiting cities before, but I don't really enjoy being a tourist. I've seen enough churches for a lifetime and hope to get some more insider knowledge from my workaway host. Like a beautiful spot where I could read a book in quiet and enjoy the scenery. Or a cosy cafe where I can observe some local behaviour, or really anything that anybody thinks worthwhile experiencing or seeing.

Interests

I enjoy long walks; they are the perfect way to explore a city. I also try to go swimming in everything that resembles water, telling myself that this will be my only chance on doing it, since I tend not to return to places I've already been. I enjoy nature a lot and am fascinated by animals. Whatever creature it is I could stare at them for hours. Just fyi, I'm not a party person, don't even drink alcohol, and don't enjoy large crowds. I rather hang out with a few people, have a good chat, or, even better, enjoy a nice game of cards, or any boardgame for that matter.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't listen to music much, and aren't very picky, but do enjoy it when other people put some on. Instead, I'm a big reader. I carry one book with my on my travels, that I exchange when finish with whoever is willing to do so. Could be on a hostel bookshelf, a book bench or just anybody. In that way I get to read things I would normally not touch, and it's amazing. Still, my favourite book though is 'the book thief', a very matter-of-fact written novel from the perspective of death about the life of a girl during Nazi-Germany. Made me cry a little. But the 'Shadow of the Wind' is close second, and the book I'm reading now is also pretty good, so...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Live six years in Israel. Work on a pig sanctuary in Ireland. Workawayed my way around Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal. Went scuba diving on a tropical Japanese island. Worked in an ice cream shop in the Daintree rainforest. Hitchhiked through Kakadu national park.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The most I can share with my host are my stories. I can tell you, how I lived for six years in Israel, I can talk about my time in the French Pyrenees or on the Irish pig sactuary, or how I spent the last three months in the Daintree rainforest in northern Queensland. I can also offer myself as a partner in outdoor adventures, exploring of vegan restaurants or a relaxed game at home. I might cook if I'm in the mood, together is always more fun though. Could help with household shares, I'm pretty neat...
