About Me

Holis,
I am Franziska, or Fran(since my Costa Rican friends thought my name to be too long and difficult to pronounce). I am right now studying in Germany at Potsdam University.
Right now I am living in Tokyo with my Japanese host family.
I met them in 2019 and am very happy to be back in Japan till april. I would love to get to know this unique country even more though. Therefore living with Japanese people for a certain time(starting from one day) would be a great help, to learn about language, mindset and culture!

While living in Costa Rica, being surrounded by new people and cultures that seemed to be thoroughly different from what I`ve known, my view of life changed a lot. And as time went on I came to understand, that there were also plenty of analogies. So I learned that getting in touch with other cultures can be fun and interesting.

I really love to hike, since it is the ultimate combination of seeing nature and moving your body, which are two things that I enjoy. Trying out new recipes is also pretty fun especially together with others. Drawing, sculpturing or doing handicrafts is fun too.
Currently, I am exchanging languages with a very good Japanese friend and how to play the violin so that I will be able to make some music with my best friend. We are spending a lot of time together geocaching or walking her dogs or jogging.

And after a day of activities, I do enjoy to end it with friends or family, cooking, eating(when the former was successful), talking or just watching some film.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since I want to get to know much more about this world and its people, before deciding on what to make out of my life, I wanted to try out Couchsurfing. I think that on this way you will have the opportunity to meet so many interesting persons you would not have met while just visiting other places. Also one does not only gets the own tourist-view on the places visited.

And I already heared from family and others, that they had good experiences with couchsurfing. So I want to give it a try too.

Music, Movies, and Books

Quite a mix concerning music(currently I find Eddie Vedder to be quiet relaxing).
I only particularly do not like to watch horror films.
Myths and fairy tales from around the world form the largest group of books in my bookshelf. I like especially the Japanese and Azerbaijanian ones. The rest is again a mix.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a night tour in Costa Rica with a volunteer and an other exchange student we where able to watch a sloth with its sloth-baby(as you can imagine it was indeed very adorable), some poisonous snails and a lot of tropical birds. But in fact the best part was that we already learned enough Spanish to understand our friendly Costa Rican guide.

Teach, Learn, Share

As I love learning in general I am very open to learn almost anything that someone would like to chare with me. And on the other side teaching is it pretty much fun, too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Making food seems to be a big topic on Couchsurfing. Since most of the time friends and family call my self made food alright up to pretty tasty, I would be happy to prepare you something edible( food is always good, isn`t it?). Maybe I could learn how to make something typical from your backgrounds, or I could cook German or Costa Rican dishes. Although I have to warn you that most Costa Rican recipes I know consist mainly of rice, lots of rice.
And by the way, I am pretty good at cleaning up a kitchen after cooking.
If you are interested in handcrafts I could probably show you some crocheting( I hope I still remember how it works).
