Music, Movies, and Books

Guilty pleasure: Emo music of early mid-2000s. I think I just lost all of my prospective hosts by saying that, but I really do like it, and I'm comfortable admitting that. Other than that, I'm very open to all types of music, movies, and books, and I can only hope you are too!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One day when I was about to leave the laundromat, I was approached by a woman in a power chair offering to pay me $5 if I could help her move some of her laundry out to her car. I told her not to worry about paying me at all. While I helped her move clothes out of the dryer into her plastic tub and out to her tight car in addition to helping her pack up her power chair into said car, I listened to her speak about how her washer and dryer work, but the dryer causes a terrible odor (from a rather graphic description). I listened to her speak about her son that passed that she is very proud of. I listened to her speak about the daughter that is coming to move back in with her from afar and how happy she was about it.
Then I bid her farewell telling her I hoped to see her again there, to which she replied: my dryer will probably be fixed by then so probably not. She smiled, and thanked me. I smiled and thanked her for her stories.
I went back in to fold my laundry, and as I was putting the last towel away, I had found $5 worth of quarters underneath. They were some of the shiniest quarters I have ever seen, and my heart melted. Perhaps she just got them from a fresh roll from the laundromat, but I pretended she had been saving them for a while. Either way, the fact that she snuck around to plant them there to repay me made me melt more.
Be kind. A simple smile and/or a ready ear can really make someone's day.

And I guess I went sky diving once.
