CURRENT MISSION

Traveling to expand my horizons. I have always wanted to live in NY city. It has taken me 20 years to get here. I would like to attend fashion institute of technology in the fall and begin my career In fashion design.

ABOUT ME

From a young age I have been obsessed with fabric, sewing machines, construction of garments and above all fashion. Through my life I learned fashion is not what label it has on it, as much as it is about if that piece of clothing makes you feel amazing. I was picked on in school for my love of French couture not because of a name but because of the painstaking meticulous perfection involved in all the steps of making a couture garment. My grandmother taught me how to sew my first stitches and my love began at 3 years old. From then I knew I belong in New York City so I could further my knowledge of sewing. When my grandmother passed away I was devastated and almost gave up sewing completely. One day my mother called and said we need to clean your grandmothers home. Will cleaning and crying and finding photographs of times past I stumbled upon photos of her wedding. These were promised to me as a child because she always told me from a young age of the great love her and my grandfather had for each other. He waited to marry her for 5 years although she insisted that she did not care how little money he had. My grandfather saved for 5 years to buy my grandmother her sewing machine and fabric for her wedding dress and to move to Boston eventually. A man and women that determined can make it and had so many odds against them I know that if I persevere I too can make an impact on the world. I would eventually like to teach sewing classes to people who cannot afford ready made clothing or who need to learn how to mend clothing. My family was very poor when they moved to the united states from Hondurus and where it not for my grandmothers useful skill of sewing many a year my mother aunts and uncles would not have had a single garment to wear. I want to share my knowledge In any way I can and help people who have similar situations. My mother has told me that many a winters had it not been for my grandmothers ability to sew living in apartments with no heat they would have frozen had she not made blankets out of all of the scraps she had saved. I am a 23 year old male in New York city looking for a place I can stay with my partner for how ever long it is feasible. Even a night will help. I am in the process of interviewing at a restaurant a former client, from the store I manage, owns. She has Garaunteed me a job. This being the case I am looking for a place to stay until I can find a suitable apartment for us.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe each of us on earth must do our part to help everyone around us. Regardless of who they are. Not because of any reward but because it is the right thing to do. In our modern society of cellphones glued to our hands people have really forgotten core values. I feel if a person has a talent or gift it is not she he or she can exploit it for money it is she they may share it with the world especially to help others.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I sew I find any thing that needs fixing and fix it. I cook, clean I enjoy helping people in anyway I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had experience as a host to couchsurfers. My partner and I have housed many travelers who passed through our town , feed and donated to there cause. I had a large house in Florida and prepared spaces for all of our guest. Our house was always a welcome house for travelers passing through. If I am not helping someone I feel my life is not fulfilled.
