About Me

Update March 2018, I just arrived in Melbourne and looking for accomodation, I am not sure I will be able to host anyone!

Hello everyone, I am Gabriele :) I finally found the time to update my profile :D

I was born in Italy, in Cagliari to be precise, located in the beautiful island of Sardinia!
After completing my Master Degree in Computer Science in Pisa, I moved out to Frankfurt, I worked for the European Central Bank, and eventually realized my dream of living in Australia while doing my PhD :)
I know it sounds super cool and all, but don't be fooled, my life is still fairly simple and I learnt to appreciate the small things! :)

I live by my own motto and my own ideas but I love talking to people and get to know them. The world is such a huge and diverse place with myriads of things to see.
Generally speaking, I live by the ideas of "Hedonism" (a word that perfecly describe my way of seeing the life, thanks to a good friend of mine for showing me this :) )
I have never seen the point of hiding behind behind lies or unneeded courtains! For this reason I am always quite open, I like telling but mostly listening to stories and to what people have done in their life. Every person is different and interesting in their own way :)

I am always looking for adventures, either alone or with amazing people randomly met :) I will got to a city or a new country with no accomodation, with no plans, and will try my best to adapt and meet people, and to enjoy the trip with a new, fresh perspective :)

"Flexibility" is my word, and the way I live my life, it's really hard to make me angry or disappointed, I always try to adapt myself to every possible situation, so that I won't be disappointed by anything, and always try to see the positive sides of things and experiences :)

"Respect" is one thing that, for me, must NEVER fall short. It's the most important thing in every relation, so I always try to be respectful, kind and nice to everyone, unless I feel disrespected :)

I wil try my best to make you feel home, if I can I will cook something, and I always have a moka for a nice italian espresso :D I don't expect anything in change, just enjoy your trip and make new experiences :)

Even if it's just for hanging out or helping you visiting whatever city I will be living in if I'm in one of those :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just want to meet new people, new cultures and see new places, as everyone on couchsurfing I guess :D I'm just starting to travel and I'm not planning to stop soon :)

Interests

SPORTS
I love sports, but lately I haven't found the time to do some real training. I swam for years and took part in many open water swimming competitions, I come from an island where the sea is amongst the best one in the Meditarrenan Sea, so yeah, I love the sea... sea is love, sea is life :D

After moving to Pisa I started to practice martial arts, and must say that I really love them, I'm actually training in Muay Thai, MMA and Shidokan.

PASSIONS AND HOBBIES
I'm a bit of a nerd, I love videogames and building gaming pcs even if lately I haven't got much spare time to enjoy this passion :)

I have always liked photography, and I'm thinking about starting as an amateur photographer as soon as I'll have more time to travel. So far I am trying my best with my camera and a tripod, planning to get a drone soon and learn to shot nice videos as well :)

I LOVE animals in general, but I especially love dogs, wolves and foxes. Even if I'm definitely a dog person, I still like cats and every other animal :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to every possible music genre, no, really, I have everything in my playlist, from dubstep to classical music, from instrumental to pop, from rap to rock to metal (I used to love Linkin Park), and then again I love drum n bass (Hybrid minds are my favourites), and still I often enjoy listening to Ludovico Einaudi or Olafur Arnalds, let's say it depends on the day's mood :)

I don't watch movies so often, but I loved Christopher Nolan's movies (Interstellar and Inception for example)... But I also like fantasy movies, animation movies (Disney FTW).

I just started to watch tv series :D I loved breaking bad, and I'm on par with Game of Thrones, yet I love sitcoms (Friends, The big bang theory, How I met your mother)... And sometimes I enjoy watching anime series too (Full metal alchemist, one punch-man, and the more populars ones like naruto or one piece)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As a poor student like I was, I travelled through Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands for 20 days, alone, spending around 350€ (inlcuding food, accomodation and transportation).

I missed the last bus in the mountains in Trentino, North Italy. I had to walk alone at 2am for 17km to get to the hotel, between rain and lightnings... Absolutely one of the best experiences I have ever had, and most probably the most beautiful night sky I have ever seen :)

I went to Iceland, with no plans and no accomodation for the first day. I ended up in the house of some authentic Icelandics. I met other people, rent a car with them and seen so much of that beautiful country. Oh and we got caught in a snow blizzard while driving :D

Swam for 9km straight in the sea for an open-water swimming competition :)

Worked in one of the most important European institution (ECB), and met so many nice people I cannot even count them, it was an amazing, stimulating experience :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can surely cook pasta, risotto and some other italian dishes :) I can teach you Italian, and I can show you around the city!
I can obviously teach an help with anything related to Computer Science such as programming, computer graphics, cryptocurrencies, smartphones and PCs, and obviously videogames :D

I also love to learn, so please feel free to share you hobbies and what you are passionate about, I LOVE seeing that spark in people's eyes when they talk about something they love, and I love learning from people :)

Every day is a new experience, and every day we learn something new

What I Can Share with Hosts

I always try my best to be nice and respectful!
I don't want anything on exchange, just enjoy your staying, and smile if you can, that would greatly "repay" me :)
I don't always have much to offer besides a roof, a bed ora couch, and some good (possibly healthy) food :) My home is your home, so feel free to eat whatever you find and chill at home if you feel like :)
