In order to get the feeling to really have been to a place it is much nicer to stay at somebody's home rather than at an impersonal hotel which could be found, exactly like this, in every other big city.
The pleasure to be welcomened as somebody's guest and to welcome travelers at your own home adds a feeling of openess and ease to travelling.
