In China you may wonder why everyone looks so good for their age. The fact is that the Chinese population begins life at one-year-old, and ages at the passing of a New Year, rather than on individual birthdays. Therefore a baby born after 11pm on December 31st will be two-years-old within the hour.
(This is also true of some other East Asian cultures)
