About Me

Hey there, fellow travelers! I'm Gamal, a creative professional based in Cairo, Egypt.

As a presentation designer and creative director, I've had the privilege of working with clients across the US, UK, Europe, and Gulf regions - which has given me a deep appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. I'm an ENTJ personality type, which basically means I'm energetic, love meeting new people, and enjoy meaningful conversations!

I'm passionate about design, business, and continuous learning (recently completed programs from Harvard Business School Online, Oxford, and Udacity). When I'm not creating visual stories for brands, you'll find me exploring Cairo's hidden gems or discussing entrepreneurship over dark Expresso ☕️

What I love about Couchsurfing is the authentic cultural exchange - there's nothing like sharing stories, local insights, and maybe even some design tips with travelers from around the world. Whether you need recommendations for the best koshari in Cairo, want to explore beyond the tourist spots, or just need a friendly face in a new city, I'm here to help!

I speak Arabic and English fluently, and I'm always excited to practice other languages. My place is your place - let's create some amazing memories together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As someone who's worked with people from the US, UK, Europe, and the Gulf, I've learned that the best connections happen when we step outside conference rooms and into real life. Couchsurfing brings that same authentic human connection I value in my creative work.

I believe travel isn't just about seeing monuments – it's about understanding how people actually live, what makes them laugh, and what stories they carry. Every guest brings a new perspective that enriches my own worldview, and honestly, that's invaluable for someone in the creative field like me.

Plus, there's something magical about showing travelers the Cairo that locals know – the hole-in-the-wall restaurants, the best sunset spots, the neighborhoods where real life happens. I love being that bridge between tourist expectations and authentic Egyptian experiences.

Whether I'm hosting or surfing, Couchsurfing reminds me that the world is full of good people willing to share their space, stories, and time. In a world that often feels divided, this community proves we have more in common than we think.

And let's be real – some of my best design inspirations have come from random conversations with Couchsurfers at 2 AM over tea!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a leap of faith and completely pivoted my career from engineering to design – and it paid off!
What started as late-night design experiments while working my engineering job turned into a full-blown passion I couldn't ignore.

Despite having a stable career path laid out, I decided to follow my creative calling and taught myself design from scratch. No formal art education, just pure determination, YouTube tutorials, and countless hours of practice.

Fast forward to today: I've helped raise over $102M for startups through my pitch deck designs, earned a 100% Top Rated status on Upwork for 5 years running, and worked with clients across 4 continents. From engineering calculations to creative direction – it's been one wild ride!

The best part? This journey taught me that it's never too late to reinvent yourself. Sometimes the most amazing thing you can do is bet on yourself and trust that passion plus hard work equals success.

Now I get to wake up every day doing what I love, and that engineering background? It actually gives me a unique edge in creating logical, structured designs that work beautifully.
