Mumbai is a financial centre of India and people go there to earn money before going back to their family. This means that most of them don't bother buying a place where to sleep and since it's not exactly cold there, sleeping on the streets is a very valid option. On a late night as I was going back to my hostel, I witnessed thousands of people sleeping where millions walk during the day. It was like a sudden plague hit the city or whatever. A truly humbling sight.
