Informazioni generali
Chi sono
My name is Gavin and I am a professional session and live drummer. In addition to my career in the music industry, I am also a teacher, clinician and author. Given the nature of my work, I have had the distinct privilege of meeting the most amazing people from all walks of life, all over the globe. My personality is customarily quiet, friendly and composed. Being from the Canadian Rockies, I am an avid hiker and weight train 3-5 days a week. I do not drink or do drugs (somewhat atypical for a musician, perhaps:) I am motivated by profound and inspiring conversation on a varied degree of topics. I desire to meet fascinating and interesting people from diverse cultures and ethnicities and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the 'pale blue dot' in which we all reside.
Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing
Having been a professional musician for the past thirty years and working with some of the worlds most iconic artists (Sweet, Joan Rivers, The Coasters, The Drifters, The Platters, etc...), I am taking time to evaluate the quality and merit of the UK music scene. I have annexed several auditions whilst in the greater London area and wish to introduce myself around establishments such as Ronnie Scott's, etc...
Additionally, after touring the UK a year ago and being exceedingly enchanted by the topography and history of the country, I determined the UK was the most poignant setting in which to pen my autobiography. Having travelled extensively in relation to my career, I have have genuinely endeavoured to both meet and engage with people from all over the globe. Cultivating relationships and gaining a genuine understanding of culture, art and custom is both fascinating and essential to me.
Being a home owner myself and frequently opening my home to travellers through Air BnB, I am keenly aware of the responsibilities and concerns such enterprises impose. Whether hosting or surfing, it is my expressed determination to provide a standard of excellence and integrity within my sphere of influence.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto
I worked for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines several years ago and on one Baltic voyage, the ship docked in St. Petersburg. Gaining much pleasure from history and art, I journeyed to the Hermitage as a tour liaison. Entering a room lined with white porcelain statues, I was captivated by the artistic merit and history the sculptures viscerally displayed. In the centre of the room was a broad marble staircase that led down to the curators' chamber.
Abruptly and without warning, a collective gasp released from the patrons standing in the whitewashed room. Not realizing what had transpired, I stepped to one side. Peering over the iron railing, I noticed that an elderly woman had slipped on the polished marble stairs below. She laid helplessly five or more steps down and yet I paused, assuming the plethora of humanity standing above and about her would, without hesitation, benevolently assist. None did. I ran to down the stairs to the ladies side, only to realize that in the course of her fall, she had compound fractured her leg and the tibia was protruding out at a 90' angle. A considerable amount of blood began streaming from her ankle, overflowing the white marble steps below. As to keep her from slipping further down the stairs and invariably causing more trauma, I sat on the step above and quickly gathered her into my arms. In order to fashion a tourniquet, I petitioned a Russian tour guide to find a clean towel and call for an ambulance.
The room became a cacophony of frantic chatter and having no formal training myself, I held this frail woman in my arms, rocking her back and forth, gently consoling her. She turned and looked at me. A huge smile spread across her face, as a tear rolled down mine. Claiming it was too expensive a garment, the woman's husband would not give up the sweater he had shouldered around him, in order to save her life. 'Pathetic', I thought, 'but just keep holding on'. The tour guide returned with a towel and I demanded that her husband tie her leg off. He did. Within a few minutes a rescue vehicle arrived and this beautiful, yet vulnerable soul was whisked away. I do not know what became of her but to this day, I pray the greatest favour on a woman who had such a transformative impact on me...

I have taught privately for many years and seek to give of the knowledge and expertise I have gained. I practice 3-6 hours a day and continue to study privately with the most proficient educators in my field. I learn from most everyone, in most every situation. I am a big fan of Jordan Peterson (psychology professor at the University of Toronto). Any resource I have at my disposal, I give willingly. I believe life itself is to learn, to experience, to grow and to share.
