About Me

Hello! I'm Gayoung from South Korea. I study Psychology and Glocal (It means Global + Local) Culture contents in my home university. I'm quite outgoing person but I prefer having a conversation personally or group of 3-4 people to talk in front of many people whom I don't know. (It doesn't mean I don't like many people.. I'm just little bit shy when I meet people for the first time. But once we get know each other, you will see!)
I'm thoughtful person, sometimes think too much. But I like that I think a lot about everything. I just want to know what's going on around me, my people, and the world. I'm hungry for knowledge about everything!

Philosophy
Here is the lines from the secret life Walter Mitty: "Sometimes I don't. If i like a moment, for me, personally, I don’t like to have the distraction of the camera. I just want to stay in it .Right there. Right here." Enjoy the moment! That's what I do here in Finland, what I WILL do during my travel, and in my life.
additional quotation I got recently : I can't go, I'll go.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I read a book of Korean traveler who traveled with only CS. During reading his book, I just cannot stop reading because It looks really amazing. He shared Korean culture with many people who live in lots of countries, and had a great time with people he had met. It made me dreamed of traveling all around the world... and after the book, I think CS is the best way I can enjoy my travel! I can make friend, share each other's culture, talk about various topics, make some food to each other... As an exchange student, I know how amazing getting know about something new. Everyone has his/her own thing which makes him/her special. I want to show my special thing and I want to know about your thing. Being different and know another is the most important thing in lives.

Interests

I'm really into artistic things.
-I love going to art exhibitions by myself. Because I have to spend a lot of times to enjoy exhibitions in every detail. Sometimes I just sit in front of art work I like for minutes. That makes me inspired and think about myself and my relationship with other people, even social issues.
-I love reading books. If I found the really amazing book, I just forget myself, what I'm doing and what should I do. I'm just absorbed into the book. I like that moment. In that moment, I exist but don't exist.
-I love listening to music. Whenever I find good lyrics and philosophy in the song, I just cannot express that moment.
-Creative activities! I used to play bass guitar, sometimes I draw, and I'm doing on my project in Finland : find colors of Finland

It's weird...I want to write more about my interests but I don't want to do so at the same time. The one thing is for sure, I REALLY want to share my interests when I meet you in personally!!

Music, Movies, and Books

It's always hard to say "MY FAVORITE". I like so many things...

I usually listen to band music, especially Korean Indie rock music, but I listen to international songs-Oasis, Mew, Jeff Buckley, The Vaccines, The Velvet underground, The Cardigans, etc. (but I also like some hip-hop and there are plenty of great rappers in Korea like Drunken Tiger, Tablo...)

All the movies which have good music, philosophy, beautiful colors, and wonderful scenery. Recently I watched Vicky, Christina, Barcelona by Woody allen. I really enjoyed it.

My favorite book is Anne of green gables written by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
I like some books of Tolstoi, Hemingway, David Salinger, Michael Ende, Kafka,.... Of course I read many Korean books, either.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exchange student. I've never lived alone, been to abroad, meet foreign friends. Everything is new to me and something I cannot expect happens everyday. My life in here is full of challenges. Sometimes it is quite stressful, but makes me grow, get important instructions in my life. After this semester, I will be changed a lot and I really expect that.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about Korean culture(including languages). It is quite unfamiliar to you, but that's why It is really interesting.

and I'm ready to learn everything!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My memories, some Korean recipes, songs.... etc. We will see what we can share with each other! I'm really open minded and curious about everything I can try! I really hope that I could meet good friends via CS!
