About Me

Oreyt then: well, after not having logged in for a few years, I just had to delete my bio and start afresh as I found I could no longer relate readily to what was there.

Living for four years in Thailand, and going through several experiences that might be described by some as 'transformative' tends to do that to someone.

When I came to this country four years ago, I wasn't exactly normal, and still am far from that. To be perfectly honest, I was a bit of a fuck-up. However, I somehow managed to get it together, and become something of an adequate English teacher. I also managed to do intensive Muay Thai for an entire year, in the jungle surrounding Chiang Rai, and learn several new things about myself through stays at Wat Tam Wua, a Vipassana meditation place.

I've definitely had an amazing time in Thailand, however I am starting to think beyond this country - wages here are stagnant, I want to see more of the world and several of my friends are leaving. However, that is a decision for another time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Growing, getting smarter and all that, which is part and parcel of this whole travel experience, generally requires meeting other people, which is what CS is good for I guess.

Interests

Game of Thrones bigly - I have a fairly obsessive mind and encyclopedic memory for many things - when applied to GoT/ASOIAF, this means an annoyingly deep and full knowledge of all the history, houses of George RR Martin's universe.

Also, literally all types of music, can probably give you an in-depth talk on most types of music, whether it's jazz, post-punk, hip hop, psytrance, or various types of punk and metal.

I also enjoy doing Muay Thai, meditating, and spending ages in the hills & forests (especially in North Thailand) trekking and/or exploring on my motorbike. I also enjoy politics, philosophy, and as light relief from the heavier subject matter I'm into, I enjoy memes and shitposting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Best experience I had in Thailand was probably learning to dive on Koh Tao, swimming through the chimney at Sail Rock.

Also, my stay at Wat Tam Wua was a major transformative experience. Went in pretty broken, came out healed.
