Music, Movies, and Books

Fave Movies? I could write a book about this, but here are some samples:

YANK MASTERPIECES

Dr Strangelove (Peter Sellers plays multiple roles to show off his unique comic genius - Black political comedy as daring as it gets)

To Be Or Not To Be (The original classic with Jack Benny succeeds in striking that ever so difficult balance between funny & serious - because comedy is the best antidote to tragedy)

The Producers (the original not the sequel - Mel Brook's 1st and only real genius of a film. Aka 'Springtime For Hitler' - Jewish humour at it's most outrageous)

Nashville (I love multi-plot narratives and Robert Altman excels here. It has now sort of been adapted into a severely tamed TV series)

Godfather Part 2 (much better than the other parts, tough I like them all)

Clockwork Orange (love Kubrick and his use of invented slag in this classic. I will never forget how it affected me when I first saw it as a teenager in Melbourne Australia)

EUROPEAN MASTERS

Zazie Dans Le Metro (Louis Malle's quirky French modern re-invention of Alice in Wonderland)

Bicycle Thieves (big fan Italian new-realist cinema & greatly inspired by its masters. Director Vittorio de Sica was a master of using real people as actors)

La Dolce Vita (Frederico Fellini is my fave cinematic circus master)

That Obscure Object of Desire by surrealist master Luis Buñuel. Because life is surreal & we have to reflect it. With French actress Carole Bouquet. Before she became the face of Chanel, I was lead actor to Carole in a German movie "Tag Der Idioten".

Fave Music:
Difficult cos I love so much of it from all over the world, so World Music I suppose! I watch musicals in London, operas and a world music festival in Skopje, and there's always a new gig in other cities.

Fave Books:
The Master and Margarita, In Cold Blood, Alice in Wonderland, Huckleberry Finn, House of the Spirits, Lolita... Could also write a book about my fave books!
