About Me

For the past few years my mantra has been 'keep moving', which has guided me from a farm looking after Old Shire horses, to Bulgaria doing improvised comedy workshops in an beautiful old house, hitch-hiking around the Balkans whilst guerrilla camping in a tent and finally teaching English in Shanghai to stinking rich Chinese students. I'm not sure if I'm a shaker, but I'm definitely a mover.

Before the moving I wanted to be an actor and generally work in theatres developing new writing.

At the moment I'm passing through Tibet, Nepal and India on the way to the homeland. When I get back I'll be starting a Masters in Social and Political Thought, which I think is just a fancy pants way of saying Marxism.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I can see that I've been a on this website for three years, but in all honesty I'm not a very good member of the Couch surfer community! I'll be better when I get my next couch I promise!

In my defence, the reason has been that I have somehow found my own couch surfers and lurkers, so I didn't really need it. In general, I like living in shared houses and having people around or passing through, so I guess I'm on the website because I share the ethos of Couch surfing.

As a traveller, I like Couch surfing because I get bored of doing the tourist stuff for too long and find that it's a good way to meet new people and discover what the local people do to occupy themselves. It's always nicer to go to someplace when you know someone.

Interests

My interests are generally quite vague.

Past interests include acting and anything related to film and theatre and literature (but that was quite a while ago and now I pretty much only read non-fiction stuff these days)

Current interests are mainly lefty politics, current affairs and ...... God I actually think that's it!

I'm always interested in good beer, having people tell me stuff about most subjects, especially astronomy, quantum physics and history.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite song is Hank Williams 'Ramblin Man'

Favourite movie is difficult, really liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I used to like lots of art house films, but in all honesty I actually can't get enough of the Marvel Universe these days.

Favourite book, I think boringly, 1984 had the profoundest effect on me, the last good book I read was This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein and currently very slowly reading Das Kapital like the good little Marxist I am.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hard to say. If I get through Das Kapital that would be pretty amazing...

Teach, Learn, Share

Well I have a lot of silly acting games floating around my brain
