My name is Gerben. I am a 26 year old guy from Holland. I recently graduated on university in Holland. Now I want to learn from the world by traveling trough it on my bicycle. I am an open minded and adventurous guy who loves to experience new things. Moreover, I love to learn from new people and cultures.

Что привело меня на Couchsurfing

From October 2015 on I'm traveling trough Asia and Europe. I started off traveling by bicycle in southeast Asia. During this time I cycled almost 7000km trough Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. After this I went on traveling with a backpack and experienced more adventures in the Philippines, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia. At this moment I'm traveling back to Europe trough China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Russia and Eastern Europe. I see Couchsurfing as a great way to learn from people and their cultures.

In my free time I like to play sports, travel, party, eat good food, drink a cold beer and enjoy all the good things in life. In my last year I did triathlons, which combines my love for running and cycling. Although, I have to admit that I am still working on my swimming technique :). Before I went into cycling and running I played football for almost 20 years.

Last summer I cycled from Amsterdam (Holland) to Rome (Italy) with three very good friends. We cycled trough Germany, the Alps of Austria and Switzerland and Italy for a month. When we came to Venice we decided we had to do something fun, to remember Venice by. After enjoying a few cold beers in the Italian sun I decided it was a good idea to jump naked from an historic bridge in the center of Venice. I ran towards the bridge, and without thinking too long (only checking for boats :) ) I took the leap to splash into one of the famous canals of Venice. When I came with my head above the water. I heard the tourist mass applauding, apparently they also thought it was a good idea. In the contrary, the Italian police did not appreciate it. They wanted to give me a fine. But with a lot of smiling, excusing and promising I would never do it again he let me go. I think that the police secretly also thought it was a little funny.
