About Me
Hi there!
My name is Gerben, which is a typical Dutch name and most of the time the first 5 minutes of an introduction are spend on explaining how you pronounce it correctly. Therefore I have several nicknames. I taught English in Chile as a volunteer in 2018 and at my school I was known as Mister G. I bet at the end of your/my stay you also have found yourself a nickname for me:)
During my studies I lived in Hong Kong, Australia and South-Africa. After graduating for my undergrad in august 2017 I decided to take a year off before starting my Masters. In this year I went to Chile to work as an volunteer to teach English at a public school. I lived with a host family for this period, which was an awesome experience.
I am a spontaneous person and can sometimes be pretty sarcastic too. I love sports, I run and swim every week. Besides that, I like to read a book about history or politics.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I really like meeting people from other countries. I believe staying with a local gives your visit such a different experience. The experience of eating, sharing stories and going out together gives you such a better image of the place that you are visiting than staying at a hostel or hotel.
