About Me

As a master's student in International Management I am thrilled about other cultures. Although my studies are originally at Bielefeld University which is close to where I was born and raised, I travel a lot and used to live in Austria (Vienna), Luxembourg (as this country is so tiny the capital is called Luxembourg as well), Spain (Barcelona) and Denmark (Copenhagen) until recently.

As I refuse to get verified (50 bucks for like... what again?) I am desperately trying to gain more credibility through the following social media accounts:
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gereon-wellmann-a58379126/ (like what makes you more credible than LinkedIn?)
Instagram: @gereonwellmann or
https://www.instagram.com/gereonwellmann/
(traveling and whatever goes on in my life when I'm not studying or working)
Not much on Facebook but there you go: https://www.facebook.com/gereon.wellmann?ref=bookmarks

Feel free to check them out to get a better understanding of who I am and what gets me going (if the information below is not enough or too much) :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm gonna attend Summer Schools in France and in the US this summer and hence would like get to know new people and combine my studies with getting to know new people/ activities such as sports/ cultures.
I like getting inspired and enlightened by other people and their opinion about things as life is complex.

Happy to meet you and get to know more about you, your hobbies and whatever you're thrilled about.

Interests

I'm interested in the following:
- My field of studies: International Management gets me going as it combines many things I really like such as:
People & Exchange | Countries and Cultures | Linear thinking where necessary, non-linear thinking on top of that (Psychology and Philosophy)
- Sports: semi-interested in watching it but highly interesting in doing it; especially in handball, football aka soccer, volleyball, running, gym and fitness in generell. Tried grappling and bouldering recently and I'm always curious about trying out new stuff!
- Music: whatever gets me going in that very moment. Some chill old-school hip hop or soft piano music for crushing some work, rap or house for workout... Gentle jazz for a wine and dine with friends... Old-school rock for "one or two" beers with friends... Music is the other thing that is nearly as complex as the next point mentioned and I like to experience it a lot.
- Philosophy and "the Art of Living": I like to find out more about this dang complex thing called life and what makes each of us happy. Hence the readings listed below are a small collection of books I admire for showing perspective in that regard.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite Books: The Alchemist, The Why Are You Here Cafe (I like to be a little bit of a philosopher in my free time if you haven't noticed or skipped the part about my interests), The Big Five For Life, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and Ego is the Enemy (because in most cases it really is)

Favourite Movies: Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, The Truman Show (Because aren't we all Truman in a sense), The Big Lebowski.
Those are just my all time faves but I am always up for interesting documentaries, a thrilling series, dark-humoured comedies and whatever is out there that teaches me, makes me laugh or catches me emotionally in any way.

Favourite Music: I listen to so many different genres that I don't even know what I wouldn't like (besides heavy metal maybe). Most of the time I listen to old-school hip hop or rap but I'm also a big fan of electronic music such as progressive house, classic piano music (I used to play the Piano for a long time when I was young), jazz and whatever suits my mood or the mood I want to be in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rather a thing that happened to me and I just got super lucky:
The first time in Iceland I saw northern lights on the first night while sitting in a hot tub outside of a cabin in the middle of nowhere and having drinks with my friends.
Life couldn't get any better in that moment.
(Although in the beginning we thought we were just drunk and couldn't believe our eyes
pictures prove it was all real and not just the alcohol.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach all the languages I know
I can tell you about the countries I've lived in, people I met (European data privacy laws are quite strikt so I might black their names or alter them), insights I gained
I like to reflect on things and hear other people's opinion about them so tell me your story and opinion
I know how to play the piano a little bit (although it's been several years that I played it SERIOUSLY I still play it every once in a while when I'm back home... It's just hard to take it with you when you're traveling, you know...)
I know a little bit of french, spanish, italian and
I want to learn about everything
(especially the things I don't know about...
Because do you know what you don't know?
I guess the answer is "no")

I like to get surprised and inspired :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Besides telling stories about my travels, my kinda exciting life as a rather unusual student who travels disproportionately often and being a semi-good chef who is interested in music, the philosophy of living, sports and whatever this life holds for me I'm gonna live in Lisbon as of September until Christmas (wink)
