... us & the great outdoors, we are one - love yourself, love nature ...
... at home at the moment: Astrid is planning to go on a work & travel visa to Argentina, where she wants to collect some more life experience, Gerhard is working at home, and also planning a trip to Argentina ...
Well, both of us are coming from the Ennstal valley, in the heart of Austria. Gerhard is coming from a little village called Rohrmoos in Austria, which is lying inmidst a big ski resort, works in tourism and is fluent in German and English, and learning Spanish and Italian. Astrid is from Mitterberg which is only 20 minutes by car from there, however her mum is Argentinian and so she is natively fluent in Spanish and German, and moreover fluent in English and quite good in French. We met in late 2013, and decided to make our travels together from thereon - all of them :)
we both like doing sports quite a lot: as we are coming from a mountain and ski resort skiing and hiking are probably our favourite, though in summer we also like to mountain bike, run or swim ... we also like going to concerts as we're quite into music and Astrid's brother (https://www.facebook.com/TheGrandGreenOfficial, https://www.facebook.com/der-Wolf-und-der-Wind-313775908675433/) and our friends (https://www.facebook.com/awalkinapark) do have bands of their own ... we mostly listen to rock music, indie rock, independent labels, and local self-produced music.
some info about the region we're coming from you can find here: http://www.schladming-dachstein.at
we take what comes next & leave the difficult stuff for GOD - and it works :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW WE PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We try to give every kind of advice on locations we've been before and we feel familiar with. we also spread the word about CS everywhere we get :) we cannot provide a couch at the moment, as we tend to travel quite a lot by now. as soon as we get settled, the plan is to have an own room ready for couchsurfers to give back to the community.
Gerhard has surfed several couches now via CS.com and it always has been a great experience - meeting also the friends of the hosts in their city! Gerhard also surfed several couches off CS.com at friends and family in Austria (Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Gaschurn, ...), Switzerland (St. Moritz, Zermatt), Canada (Calgary, Montréal), the US (Walnut Creek, L.A., Winter Park), Denmark (Copenhagen), Norway (Bergen, Hardangervidda, Lillehammer), Sweden (Gotland, Jävle, Stockholm), Ireland (Wexford, Sligo) and Spain (Valencia, Galicia, La Vera), which was always great fun and a great experience. For Astrid the couchsurfing experience with CS.com started in Canada 2015, and together we have now surfed a lot of places in Canada and the US. Astrid of course has also surfed at places of friends and family in Austria (Graz, Innsbruck, ...), Canada (Montréal) or Argentina (Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Tandil, ...) off CSing too.
The reason for not having any host experience on the site is that all people we've hosted have become friends thru earlier CS experience and have contacted us off-site. We were able to host friends from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Germany and the US.
Also, Gerhard has written his Master thesis on the relationship between hosts and surfers and the effects it has on learning about a destination :) :)
Interests we both share are: skiing, hiking, music, moutain biking and swimming. sometimes we also like to go for a run or a longer walk. Also, both of us like photography quite a lot, so the camera is always with us, and we like to go to music festivals, but rather small ones, where you feel like being part of a family ... travelling of course is also something we love to do - best done by road trip :)
on our trips we always try to get local food, especially that kind made of regional products, but good Italian PIZZA is always welcome :) :) :) :) :) in the evenings we like to go out and see friends and grab a juice or beer.
Music, Movies, and Books
Gerhard: I could name lots of great movies, some of my favourite actors include: Kevin Spacey, Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Gabriel Byrne, Vinnie Jones, Edward Norton, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo Di Caprio, Mathias Schweighöfer ... I think "the usual suspects" is probably one of the best movies ever ... together with "into the wild". My music taste is everything around rock: hard rock, skate rock, metal, indie, grunge, stoner rock, but also a little bit of reggae, trip-hop, hip-hop, techno, electronic and classical music like Strauss & Mozart. My favourite book overall is the Holy Bible - a good advice in any circumstance; I also admire Paolo Coelho for his writings; others I like are: The Medicus, Illuminati, Sound Of The Wind, The Angel's Game, The Pillars of the Earth, The White Wolf, ...
Astrid: I like the movies of Mathias Schweighöfer (German comedian) and in general I like a good laugh and comedies a lot. I also like movies that portray life stories of the people involved, or when they tell about special situations in life, such as "Still Alice" with Julianne Moore. When I listen to music I prefer indie and alternative rock, as well as some cross-over, grunge and pop, and some good melodic metal. Sometimes my brother Klaus asks me to do background vocals for his recordings. Paolo Coelho is one of the writers I like as well.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
that's a tough thing to say and it's hard to pick something - there's just too many things that are amazing ... EVERY DAY ... standing on top of a mountain is something pretty amazing in general. one thing's for sure - and that goes with the last words of Christopher McCandless - happiness is only true when shared. so many things we've done definitely date from late 2013 and from there on :) :) :)
* road trip through Ireland and Northern Ireland
* road trip from Austria to Tuscany in Italy and back
* trip with friends to Croatia
* cooking together and sharing time together
Teach, Learn, Share
where we maybe could help is with learning languages a bit (German, Spanish, a bit of French, a little Italian). we also like to share our experiences and thoughts about the world and what we could do to improve it. Astrid is also a good cook, Gerhard only together with Astrid :) ...
Ah, yeah, one more thing: about a year ago we started to learn yodeling a little bit - so we could teach you some of that as well :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
we really like cooking together, or maybe going out for a drink. also, we want to share about our lives and the experiences we've made so far. we're pretty much up for conversation about anything.
