About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To not care until judgement day.

ABOUT ME

I am currently studying Japanese at The School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Japanese is quite a lot harder than I thought it would be, and I'm not exactly sure where it will take me but I reckon it will turn out all right. I came from the countryside originally so London is quite a change of lifestyle, but lots of fun indeed.
A while ago I took a year out, and I spent it in roughly equal parts sleeping, travelling Eastern Europe, working, and being unemployed. I learnt a lot from all of these activities, but mostly that I'm not as good at sitting on my arse as I thought.
Next year I'm off to live in Japan, and I've never been more excited! I shall be hosting people there so get in touch.

PHILOSOPHY

"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic cords of memory will swell when again touched as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature." - Abraham Lincoln

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed at one place and hosted quite a few people. All my experiences have been positive, usually very positive. It's great getting to know people from all over the place, but don't host somebody if you're really busy; it can get a bit complicated unless you have a spare key.

Interests

Cooking, eating, drinking, calligraphy, people, Japan, Albania, kanji, grammar, philosophy, minds, physics, metaphysics, speculation.... etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like lots of films, from Mean Girls to Akira Kurosowa. Any film with at least two original ideas, which can be rare these days, I will generally like.
The best films I've watched recently: Cemetery Junction, No Country For Old Men, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Blue Velvet.

I like electronic music mostly, stuff from Warp and "IDM" stuff, but again most things appeal to me if some thought has gone into their production.

I don't get much time to read these days but I love books and everyone should read Haruki Murakami, Gormenghast, and Chuck Palahnuik. Currently enjoying Evelyn Waugh and Arundhati Roy.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you a some Japanese.
And also Japanese/Chinese calligraphy if you're interested.
I like to cook and I have a few good recipes, and would be keen to learn more.
