I am an atheist and a rationalist and I don't think I believe in a single conspiracy theory from birthers to truthers to the illuminati. GMOs feed people, aspartam is safe and "alternative" is a polite way of saying bullshit.

Politically, I am a conservative libertarian. Stay out of my bedroom and my wallet and I'll stay out of yours. Generally hugely pro-US, pro-Israel and an avowed Anglophile.

I don't drink or smoke but I couldn't care less what you do with yourself - chew gum or shoot up heroin.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I sometimes have spacious lodgings when I'm on holiday, and couchsurfing.com is a great way to meet new people. Even if you don't agree with them (hell, even like 'em), you'll usually learn something new.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted a few people while renting a house in France in August 2010, and it was a very nice experience. I also hosted in Termini, outside Naples in December 2010 and again in Hua Hin, Thailand in April, 2012. Met lots of nice people every time.

Interests

Travel, history, literature, music, poetry, politics, photography and architecture. I love museums, old castles, ancient ruins and purdy scenery. I also have a sick and twisted sense of humor.

Movies: Anything by Monty Python.

Music: Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, Sisters of Mercy, CCR. Lots of 60s and 70s stuff in general. Classical & opera. Bluegrass.

Writers: JRR Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, PJ O'Rourke, Stephen Donaldson, Robert Heinlein. Favorite book: The Moon is a harsh mistress by Heinlein.

Poets: Frost, Longfellow, Tennyson, Swinburne, Hardy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been to all fifty states in the USA. That was my one, huge travel goal and I reached it with the great state of Alaska in late May 2012. Wheeee!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have always been a good singer, but sometime in late 2011 I developed some vocal problems and I am still not back to my normal singing form. This annoys me tremendously, as it was the ONE thing I could count on to break the ice when I was traveling. ~Le sigh~.
