About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live life to the full :)

ABOUT ME

I am easy going, honest, enjoy learning, travelling, meeting people and sharing ideas. I have lived in a few countries, count amongst my friends people from many more and love that diversity. Like most people, I am different things at different times, I can be serious, reflective, full of laughter, spontaneous, adventurous, cautious, quiet, and gregarious...and even grumpy from time to time! :)

PHILOSOPHY

To live fully and in peace, to love truly, to keep learning and to treat others as I would want to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far as a surfer and going to local meetings, but will be hosting soon, as it is such a great way to meet all kinds of interesting people and it would be nice to show visitors a my little bit of Scotland.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brilliant, I have really enjoyed meeting some amazing people and have found out so much more about the places I have visited by meeting locals.

Interests

I love nature, being outside in it and professionally trying to protect it. I spend my time reading, taking photos, writing, listing to music, going to the movies, traveling, meeting new people as well as being with some of the splendid people I already know. I enjoy walking, climbing, sailing, and skiing as well as sitting down :).

Music, Movies, and Books

I love lots of different kinds of music, from dub and bass, electronic music, Spanish guitar and some classical. I also have a real thing for some of the brilliant drumming I have heard from Northern Africa, as well as Cuban rhythms and funky tunes. I am not a big jazz fan, but Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain is one of my favorites, a sublime trumpet to a Spanish guitar tune.

For books there are so many and I tend to alternate fiction and non fiction, so generally devour the fiction and then go much more slowly with the factual stuff. I particularly love books for the new insight or perspective they give.

I really love movies, and We are Many was one of the last ones I saw, although it is more of a documentary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode through the Pamirs on a bike, although in truth I spent quite a lot of time off the bike pushing! It wasn't the bike ride as such that was amazing, but the people I met were so beautiful and lovely and hospitable, I feel truly privileged to have had the chance to be there.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning, whether it is a few words of a new language, an insight into yourself or others, how to cook a beautiful new flavour, or a new cultural perspective, it is all brilliant. For teaching I am not sure, but for me some of the best conversations involve the flow of ideas, so at any one moment you will be learning whilst at the next sharing something you know.
