About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To conquer the Romance languages one step at a time. And to learn how to drink hot chocolate without burning my tongue.

ABOUT ME

There is nothing I love more than to make people laugh. I love translating and reading literature. I am currently finishing up my degree in New York after spending eight wonderful months in Italy.

PHILOSOPHY

Be nice to other people. Sing as much as possible, dance when you feel like it. Tell jokes. Fight the robots.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed with some wonderful hosts while I was traveling in Serbia. I hope to be able to participate once I'm living on my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I embarked on my first CS adventure in April 2014 and it went beyond my expectations. I feel welcomed into a truly positive and interesting group of people.

Interests

Languages, literature, theater, translation, linguistics...I like words. I also love music! I play the euphonium (looks like a mini-tuba) and trombone.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of fun indie piano rock: Ben Folds, Jukebox the Ghost, Via Audio. My favorite movie is Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

Books I've enjoyed in the past year: Ghana Must Go (Taiye Selasi), Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë), The Sense of an Ending (Julian Barnes), Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell), Transformations (Anne Sexton), & The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (Junot Díaz).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled to a village in southern Mali to help build a school a couple years back. We stayed with families in the village and got to participate in daily life, and in a couple nighttime celebrations. If you've never danced in a drum circle at night... you should try it some time. I've never (or rarely) experienced such an intense spirit of community in the States; it was supremely joyous.

Teach, Learn, Share

Spanish. Italian. English. Paper crane folding. Basic marching band conducting. American slang.

I'd love to learn Portuguese!

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Canada, Mali, Serbia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
