About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to become more comfortable with uncertainty
ABOUT ME
To pay my way through school, I worked as a camp counselor, medical secretary, stage technician, designer, bookseller and fundraiser. (Not, of course, all at once.)
Now, in order to travel and to fund a second degree, I'm trying to write a romance novel. It's harder than it looks!
I play violin in a bluegrass band. It's a very new band, made of a bunch of women like me who didn't get it out of our system in highschool, and so far it's been entirely awesome.
I love my flat in Toronto (and my very tangly garden -- the tomatoes are a bit out of control), but I look forward to couchsurfing my way around the world.
Oh -- and as far as what I'm like as a guest -- I'm a non-smoker who drinks socially. I'm tidy (although I don't care if my host is), and self-sufficient.
PHILOSOPHY
Our limits are self-imposed.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love screwball 1940s comedies (the clothes! the parties! the dialogue!), and am also partial to bad B-movie sci-fi (Barbarella is genius). I'm a huge Buffy fan.
Because of my band, I'm mostly listening to bluegrass these days... although I also listen to hair metal in the hopes of figuring out if we can turn the tunes into bluegrass. ("Enter Sandman" hasn't worked well, so far.)
For my job, I read a lot of young adult fiction - and right now, the stuff coming from Australia and New Zealand kicks butt. My last favourite novel was Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones, but I read widely and eclectically. I also recently read "Wuthering Heights," which I somehow missed in school, and I was _shocked_. Shocked, I tell you! The characters in it are monsters! It's great!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Three years ago, I accidentally ended up being an underwear model... on a catwalk! Wearing nothing but cotton balls and pink ribbon!
I was volunteering as an usher for a benefit fashion show, and one of the models who was supposed to be strutting her stuff got into a car accident on the way over. I was her size, and I was trying this thing where I said yes to every opportunity.
It's hard to be scared of many social situations after you walk almost naked down a catwalk, to a crowd of cat-calling drunk women. :-) (and men. but mostly women.)
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to make an infalliable loaf of bread.
I want to learn to speak more languages, starting with French, which I haven't really had a chance to practice since highschool.
