One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One sunday afternoon, after a volunteer work week at the the beautiful hillside eco-village of Cae Mabon, Wales. I decided to climb the mountain that had been staring at me all week from across the lake. I left my girlfriend and her children with the van, some snacks in my pocket and a staff in my hand. First, came the walk around the lake and the through the town of llanberis. As I began to ascend Mount Snowden, I was met by a mountain-slide of hikers, who had obviously started early in the morning, each in their expensive hiking gear, all colourful and plastic, with carbon fibre poles. They probably had reached the peak by lunch time.. There's me in my heavy wax jacket and a big wooden stick, walking against the flow, greeting them with my naively optimistic smile at 3 in the afternoon. It took my five hours to get up, leaving the path to trace one of the cliff edges for the occasional mind-blowing height's view. The peak met me with a clear panoramic for about one minute before a cloud rolled up into me. I darted back down, through the hail. My memento; a pristine white sheep skull that now rests in my sisters bedroom. All in all a triumph!! A spontaneous sense of adventure that has left me wanting more!! Bring on the epic vistas and raw landscapes!!!!
