About Me

CURRENT MISSION

planetary peace pilgrim. hopi-integral-permaculture

ABOUT ME

Gyspsy soul, inquiring mind, creative evolutionary, integral-permaculture activist, guitarist, global citizen.

PHILOSOPHY

Idealism-meets realism. Integral Buddhist Existentialist. Dharma without dogma. Creativity and innovation appear to be the brightest path forward at this time on earth. And then there is the ongoing conversation about the nature of "integral practices" - blending and bridging the premodern and postmodern (in a post-postmodern world), but that usually requires a good cup of tea... Awakened embodiment for the benefit of all beings.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I agree with the CouchSurf mission statement: "Creating a better world, one couch at a time." The (r)evolution is happening at the grass-roots level, where ordinary radicals like CSers get together and engage locally in forging the emerging global culture. With all due humility, leading-edge communities like CS are in the vanguard of creating a world that works well for everyone and everything.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in the early 80s, before the online community began, vagabonding in America (West Coast) during my early twenties. Now i'm getting on board with the .org-version. I'm a seasoned traveler and familiar with the art of being a gracious guest as well as host.

Interests

I'm currently studying Integral Theory and Permaculture Design - a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary approach to sustainable/regenerative agriculture & human culture. I'm a 30 year practitioner of West Coast Buddhism, fascinated with the subtle workings of the mind as it interacts with the larger world.

Also have studied/am studying and practicing traditional Hopi mythology and worldview-way of life. Take a look at my website: hopi-integral-permaculture.org

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: used to be enamored with, and still have love and respect for, the British Invasion (Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin), now into solo acoustic guitar (segovia, michael hedges, tommy immanuel). Deva Premal has some great fusion east-west music. Movies: Kundun (scorsese), Secret of Roan Innish,
V for Vendetta (wachoskis). Books: non-fiction, ancient and contemporary philosophy, buddhism meets brain science, social permaculture.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once played a one-hour set of great original music with my band for an audience of 3,000 people.

I've made several pilgrimages to the many sacred sites in the American Southwest and Northwest.

I dreamed of mountain lion cubs last night.

Teach, Learn, Share

My inspiration is hopi-integral-permaculture, which is about...

how mindfulness/consciousness creates practical solutions in the areas of (but not limited to): local food production, local economies, local skill-sharing, etc. I've got some great stories to share from my travels and travails, maybe a few songs as well, and I always enjoy zazen sitting-meditation with others, but I know most folks are too "busy" for that - no worries. If indigenous First People cultures are of interest to you, I have some experience with the Hopi people at Hotevilla...
