About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get a new perspective.

ABOUT ME

Where I live is OK. But, I like to travel to meet people with different ideas.

How much interaction we have will depend on my schedule and your inclinations.

I'm retired and single.

PHILOSOPHY

It's a big risk to assume that someone who has a different opinion isn't as smart as you. The key is to understand why they have a different opinion. Listen to understand.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

ALSO AVAILABLE FOR TO MEET FOR A DRINK, ETC.

I have a guest bedroom that was previously used for storage that I'm getting ready.

I'd like to couchsurf on a trip.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met people for meals and to socialize while traveling but haven't actually surfed a couch. I'm looking forward to surfing a couch soon! I've had 3-4 guest and enjoyed meeting all of them.

Interests

I enjoy making or fixing things, perhaps to a fault. It seems I always have some project. My last job was as a programmer. I don't play computer games. I do program recreationally. I like: most sports, sailing, reading, fresh food from the garden (so I garden some), good food (so I cook some). Linux/Open Source programming.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Magnificent 7
Idiocracy
The Theory of the Leisure Class
If on a Winters Night a Traveler
Most music, but not much Rap
Brazil (the move, I haven't been to the country)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkeling off the CA coast (a while ago), we were having lunch. A whale came up to breathe behind us, about 5 meters/yards. We followed it for awhile with our inflatable and got some really bad video of it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Practical application of things I learned in school: welding, programming, car repair (some). I built a house.

I'd like to learn more about alternative energy and self sufficiency, alternative construction techniques, and using common materials in unique ways.

I'm trying to learn a couple of languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Generally when I travel I am pretty independent, so I'm flexible on the amount of time we spend together and what we do. I'm couchsurfing because I want to meet you and discover a little bit about the place where you live and I'll return the favor. I like to cook and can help with chores. I usually don't plan on staying at any one place for more than a day or two.
