To experience the present moment and to rediscover humanity's natural goodness...
I've been travelling my entire life. At the moment, I'm hitchhiking across the United States, experiencing the most profound and beautiful journey I have ever been though.
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
I have very eclectic interests, and too many to say. I'm very fascinated by humanity, nature and the way humanity interacts with nature.
Music, Movies, and Books
Lots and lots of books, lots and lots of movies... and some music.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm sitting down at McDonalds right now and since it's open 24 hours, I will probably stay here for the night. A few minutes ago, a man came up to me and, without a word but only a smile, gave me two gift cards and disappeared like the wind. It was a spontaneous gesture of pure goodness from a stranger who's name I will never know and who's face has already faded from my mind.
And it wasn't the only time since I begun my journey that someone has done this type of gesture for me. Only today, it happened several times. One person walks up to me, asks me my story and gives me ten dollars for food. Another walks by and gives me five dollars, for no reason other than the willingness to do good, as I'm sitting typing on my iPhone. A clerk in a restaurant offers me a free drink while another supersizes my coffee. While walking, a man on his bike stops by my side and offers me a bottle of water. Another man starts talking to me and, learning that I'm stuck in an unfortunate location, offers to give me a ride to a safer place. All this in a single day and not once did I ask for anything. These were all spontaneous expressions of sincere and pure goodness, coming from random strangers that I will never see again.
On my side, I met a young man that was living a disadvantaged life in a disadvantaged neighborhood. We talked for a while and he clearly was living a troubled life, but he was inspired by my experience and wanted to know more. At one point, he said he hadn't eaten since yesterday, so I handed him an apple and a granola bar that some people had the goodness to give me.
That is how the wheel must turn.
Receive the sincere goodness of others when in need and, in return, sincerely share your goodness with those in need. That is how the true empathic nature of humanity will reveal itself in it's most beautiful expression.
