About Me

There's lot to me - I work as a hotel concierge in Montreal, and have a wide range of hobbies that define me. An all-round amateur; I'm an adventurer, chef, painter, poet, musician, boulderer, biker, story teller, and many more. I try to keep it real and not take it too seriously - though sometimes I do. Do not panic!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to find a more social way to travel, meeting new people, and trying new things.

Interests

I've tried a lot of different things throughout my life and have many different hobbies and interests. I've been into music most of my life and have played trumpet in jazz bands, sang with punks, jammed techno with drum machines, plucked banjos, and even performed in a baroque orchestra. I've also made films, and tried my hand at claymation. I've studied Mollisonian Permaculture - grew gardens and went on mushroom hunts. I've recently gotten into bouldering and concquered my fear of heights. I'm interested in learning more about cooking and trying different world cuisines - and not to mention eating them too. I've worked as a hotel concierge for the last five years and have learned a lot about tourism - while never actually becoming one.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite book is Silence: Lectures and Writings by John Cage. It's changed how I see and experience the world and refer to it often (I've also adapted some of the anecdotes as great bar jokes).

My favourite travel book is Tuva or Bust about Richard Feynman and Ralph Leighton's failed attempt to visit the former country whose capital was named Kyzyl. Be more curious about the world around you and pursue it!

My limited current travel playlist contains: Attack In Black, Boards Of Canada, Brian Eno, Buerak, Cool Maritime, Destroyer, Hainbach, Kino, The Microphones, Modest Mouse, My Bloody Valentine, Oval, Patient Hands, Radiohead, and Venetian Snares. So far I wished I had some more jazz, electronic, metal, and folk selections on my phone... In the end, the best thing to listen to is the world around you.

Movies are the best. I don't get to see as many as I'd like. I really couldn't make a top 10, but it would probably wind up being a baffling mix of arthouse films, classic movies, and really stupid comedies. The best film is the one I haven't seen yet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had lunch with the Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau once, we had a big meatloaf.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm the fastest dishwasher in the west, and I can make a soup out of anything.
