About Me

Well, I have a mostly fleshy exterior.
I like to expose it to the sun, wind, rain and brush when I get the chance or when I am willed enough to leave the comfy confines of my apartment.
I love all the seasons & weather pretty equally.
I like peas.
Tofutti and fruit cake confuse me.
I love spending my time watching films, listening to podcasts, organizing get togethers, reading, being creative, learning about language, etc.
I tend to ramble.

I can get pretty busy so I might be able to host, might not. Either way I am happy to help you find things to do in the area, etc.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people, offer a couch, show people around and host local events for the CS community.
Basically, share what I can, when I can, & learn from those I meet.

Interests

I heart animals, people, a good excuse to be creative, radio, exploring, getting outdoors, ice cream, random facts, the b-side of most things, and general philosophical meanderings.

  • documentaries
  • salsa dancing
  • outdoor activities
  • languages
  • nature
  • storytelling
  • sleeping
  • film
  • biking
  • radio
  • climbing
  • oddities
  • novelty
  • potlucks

Music, Movies, and Books

I usually prefer docs and non-fiction but love to be wooed into 'reading' *cough, couch listening to* a good fiction too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I really enjoyed experiencing the midnight sun up north as well as a brief glimpse of the northern lights. Also, I fell out of a plane once and am convinced I had a 5sec heart attack on the way down.

"Rachael's Personal Suggestions for Things to Do In and Around Kingston"

Event Calendar
- This calendar doesn't list all the events happening in Kingston but it does a pretty good job
http://queensevents.ca/calendar/

Skeleton Park Arts Festival
Every year around Summer Solstice Kingston Skeleton Park throws a big & free community minded party with lots of music, fun and art. Come check it out if you are in town or plan your Kingston dates around it, you won't be disappointed. Scroll down to the video to get a rough idea!

Wolfe Island
- Grab the free ferry from downtown, rent a bike on the island and explore a bit, go to Big Sandy Bay (the beach). Or if you have limited time, just take the ferry there and ride it back for a short but beautiful scenic ride.

Prison Museum
- An interesting place to learn about Kingston's history as the Prison Capital of Canada and *spoiler* there's a section on prisoner escapes!
http://www.penitentiarymuseum.ca/default/

Kingston Pen Tours
- Right across the street from the museum is the old penitentiary. It closed a couple years ago and you can sign up for a tours now.

A fold-up foam bed, or the couch - but I'm always keen to apply some creative problem solving.
My personalized layout of things to do and/or see in Kingston.
