I was born in Chicago, IL and raised in and around the city. It's a friendly city and it has taught me that there's strength in being a friendly person. I love to travel, but admittedly haven't done it enough. I was happy to call Chicago my home for 35 years, but it's time to see more of the US and the world.

I'm training for a marathon, and targeting a 3h 30m finish (update - nailed it and finished with a 3:27:47). I also like road biking and working on my own bikes. I enjoy all kinds of music. I like figuring out how to play new instruments and I love to sing - even though it might take me a minute if I'm put on the spot. I like hiking and camping and conversation and food and drinks with old friends and new friends.

I like making food. And eating food. I think I already mentioned food, but did I mention food?

Oh - and dogs. I love dogs. All kinds of dogs. The more dogs the better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm going to start traveling more. Alaska, Mexico, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, UK, Poland...the list will continue to grow. I didn't do it in my 20's and I regret it, so I'm going to do it now so I'm not sitting around in my 70's wishing I had done it in my 30's - and I'm not interested in sitting in a hotel room by myself when I do it!

Music, Movies, and Books

All kinds of music. If it's got rhythm and melody - and even sometimes when it doesn't - I love it. I'm a sucker for sci-fi & action movies. Outside of the news and social media, I don't read much - but when I do it's usually re-reading Salinger or a book my girlfriend gave me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I helped a guy in a plaid tweed suit having a seizure in the middle of a busy street in Chicago by propping his head up under my knee, preventing people from sticking spoons in his mouth, and calling emergency responders and waiting with him until they arrived.
