About Me

Hi! I'm Greg, a filmmaker from New Mexico, USA, which is where I've lived my entire life. Gallup is on Route 66, and is at the heart of the Navajo Nation.

I'm a reserved person, but being reserved has never stopped me from going outside of my comfort zone. I enjoy listening to beliefs and opinions that I don't necessarily share, as it brings me joy to understand how different people can have different perspectives on the world.

I have traveled almost all of the contiguous United States, from road trips, spending time in the city, to long distance backpacking thru backcountry trails.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Since becoming an adult, all I've done is work, work, work. I always have wanted to backpack Europe by myself, but have put it off numerous times. I'm finished putting it off! I do not have the privilege of knowing when my next job is going to start, so I want to stretch this trip as long as possible. I could probably last a year traveling, if I don't have to come back to the States for work. But only if I'm thrifty!

I do want to visit historical places across Europe, and do a little of the tourist bit, but I also want to know the areas I will be travelling as a local might. So it will be great to make friends with locals if they'll have me, and get off the beaten path if they'll show me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like all genres of music. For Country, there is Sturgill Simpson and Guy Clark, for Hip Hop there is Kendrick Lamar and Rapsody, for Pop there is Billie Eilish and Sia, for Rock there is alt-j, for Stoner Rock there is All Them Witches, for Americana Folk there is Sleepy Graves and Langhorne Slim. I could keep going for some time...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During research for a documentary I wanted to produce and direct, I jumped a freight train for a few hundred miles in California, and lived on the streets with real train hoppers for nearly two weeks.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you about what goes on behind the scenes of a movie. Or perhaps some useful knots.

I would love to learn any new bits of languages, and I'm a huge fan of learning life hacks and shortcuts.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll admit I'm a modest person, without many special skills, or any teachable hobbies.

But I do have many stories to tell. I come from a state that not many Americans know exist, and grew up in a town inhabited mostly by Native Americans.

I love talking politics, religion, philosophy , culture... or none of the above. I am just as happy to make banter, and enjoy a night out at a bar.
