About me? Well, I can only say subjectively that these things apply to me. This is going to be something you find out for yourself. Right?

Here are some basic observations though.

I'm an artist living in Melbourne Australia. I paint figurative work and portraits in a traditional style with oils. **On a side note, I'd be very interested in people who would like to participate in a sitting for me. I'm always trying to improve so any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I also teach, so anyone interested in learning a bit of painting I'm here to help.

I love film and music too. All types of both. If you have some interesting tastes I'd love to hear and see what you've got in store for me. Let's share a little culture.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

If I were to try and explain why I'm doing this it would be that I'm opening up my home to others on the basis that there are some very unique and exciting individuals in the world and hopefully we can meet and share something together.

I'm looking for some real connections and to challenge myself to see who I really am. And who you are too.

I'll just add that I started this profile in 2011 when I was travelling but have only just now really started to really appreciate the idea of this community. A lot of things have changed for me and I am not looking for a place to stay for free or people to get drunk with, I'm hoping to do much more growth than is possible for me stuck in my comfortable existence.

My main interest is learning. I assume most couchsurfers are like this and that's why you choose to have real experiences and learn more about the world and the people in it.

If you've got something to teach or something to talk about, I'm interested. Obviously I've already mentioned art, music and film, but I am also very interested in philosophy, astronomy and science, politics and any interesting ideas or theories you might have about life.

I like a good coffee too, so a visit to a cafe and a chat is first thing on the 'to do' list.

Ok, movies: The Fountain, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Salt of the Earth, Wings of Desire. I love Kubrick, Polanski, Jarmusch, Wes Anderson, P T Anderson, Wim Wenders, David Fincher, Terrence Mallick. I'm big on documentaries, like Fire In The Night, Let The Fire Burn, Paradise Lost, The Imposter, anything by Alex Gibney or Errol Morris. There are too many really, you will have to ask me again in person.

Music: Nirvana, The Mars Volta, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Knife, Warpaint, Nick Cave, Aphex Twin, Bjork, R. L. Burnside, UNKLE, Fiona Apple, Pj Harvey, The Sword, The Doors, M.I.A., Die Antwoord. Again, too many to properly list, but you can see it's pretty varied. As long as it has passion, I'm interested.

Books: I like a lot of history books. Non fiction. But also, I enjoy Albert Camus, Hunter S Thompson, Phillip K Dick and Tolkien. Of course.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I was once playing guitar in a 'battle of the bands' gig with my high school band and decided about 5 minutes into an extended version of Rage Against the Machine 'Killing in the Name of' that this was a perfect time to smash my guitar and jump into the crowd. We got the power shut off and were escorted out of the building. The 15 year olds in the audience have never experienced rock and roll like the kind I provided for them.

I moved on to painting soon after.
