COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I slept on many couches when i stayed at the places of people who booked me for a DJ set in different countries (drum'n'bass - greyone) Sometimes i prefer a couch for a hotel.

Best time i had was when i missed my flight in Austria (Vienna) , at night , when i had no more money on my phone and with low battery..
I had to rebook my flight , and the cheapest way was a flight 2 weeks later , so i had to find a way to stay there and help myself out
//story starts a year before when i made music and caught the ear of a Belgian label , they invited me to join them in a travel to austria to play there. Its was so amazing , and a few days when i was back i got contacted by a person who was there and watched my set , he was amazed and wanted me to book me for the next summer . And so he did , and i catched up with him at the airport in Austria in july 2008. His name was Jacob , very friendly , spontaneous and an open minded fellow . We drove to his house in Graz where i could sleep on his couch for the weekend , in the south of Austria and i met his friends and prepared for the party i had to play at... the party was a succes and all seemed fine , i had such a great time. Then the next day his girlfriend drove me back to the airport and we discussed how great the weekend was and that i shouldnt miss my flight hehe ... but unfortunatly , when i arrived at the boarding , it was allready closed and the plane was allready gone :( //
So i was there in vienna at night , and i had to find a way back to Graz. I didnt have the phone number of Jacob , but i had another correspondent in Austria , somebody i knew from an online dnbforum , he lived in Salzburg. I asked the lady at the airport who cared for the re-bookings for loading up my mobile phone so i could call him.. in the meanwhile i called my mom : hey mom i missed my plane , i cant talk much now , dont worry i'll be fine . Then when my mobile had a bit battery again , i could call the guy from salzburg.
he was like : "Yo greyone , good to hear ya blablalba... what !? You missed your plane , you're in Vienna now ? Ok i will call Jacob and tell him your problem , we'll find a sollution .." Then i had the plan to take the train to the south , so first i had to get in the main trainstation in the middle of Vienna . I asked a traveling couple how to get in Graz by train and they explained me how i should get there the easiest way.. When i finally arrived at the trainstation in Vienna , the last train was just gone :( , so i had to spend the night overthere . I met another traveller from austria who told me i could stay the night in a 'sportswetten' bar , a place for all kinds of bidding , just nearby the station. My next train was at 6 in the morning. But when i entered the sportswetten bar , it seemed very weird , there was the boss who looked like he hadent slept for a week watching movies all night , and some locals watching footbal . I asked if i could stay for the night and it was no problem , but i didnt sleep , i didn't trust it , i had my laptop in my bag and that grumpy old deadwalker looking at me. So i stayed up on redbulls and cigarettes and watched the movies the boss looked at , i felt my eyes closing and my heart beating in my chest. Time went so slow this was terrible. Finally when it was a bit before 6 i went to the train , took it , fell asleep , once in a whiled opened my eyes to see the wonderfull country side of austria passing by... sunny day.
Graz: it was 9 o clock when i arrived at Graz, i didnt know where Jacob's house was but i knew the famous moutain from the city was just nearby his place. I checked a local map and went walking north ..
I finaly recognised some elements , and soon i found his home , then i rang the door..
"Wow ! Tom , where have you been all the time , we heard you missed your plane ,blablabla" and they welcomed my to stay over their place for some time.
In the 2 weeks i stayed , i had the BEST experiences of my life , i could write books about it , i slept on many couches , met many interesting people , went to wonderful places , had some special moments , traveled with them , and experienced so much this looked unnatural :). Then 2nd time good time , i caught my flight back home...

But when i came home i felt empty again , everything went wrong , i was ripped out of my dream imediatly , parents nagging , belgian mentallity all the way , my laptop broke , my dad broke my external harddrive , i was in search of what i wanted to do now after my graduation , pff

I toured in Russia in December 2009 , from moscow to Siberia and all in between. Best travel up to now, beautiful places in the mighty russia !
