I think it's a better way of travelling getting to know a place not only as a tourist but also with someone who really lives there, more as a inhabitant. That's a more valuable experience, according to me...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to couchsurf in different places in Europe and with my boyfriend I travelled a year and a half through South America, where we couchsurfed a lot. Some friends we met this way, also came to visit us in Gent, which was really nice.
