To enjoy life to the full in Oman! Traveling, exploring and seeing the world through the eyes of a 1student, a teenager and 7 year old at the same time!

ABOUT ME

We are a South African family exploring the Middle East and loving every moment. Oman is the most beautiful, serene country of the world. Sohar is a beautiful coastal town/city, ideal to relax away from the busy city life. There are many traditional activities to enjoy such as camel racing, camping in the desert, etc. We are family of 7 in Oman. Sybrandt, enjoys his sport and traveling. Ilze, loves being creative and socializing. The three children that joined us on our journey in Sohar are Abre, 20 year old student that loves foreign languages and online gaming, Ewald, 16 years - currently in Grade 11, a bookworm and an artistic 9 year old daughter in Grade 4. The 2 eldest siblings live and work in Muscat, Awie and Marista, both 22 years old. Together we are an interesting bunch of people with an unusual sense of humor. Also living with us are our 3 rescue dogs, Joann, a Saluki mix lady, Molly, a big fat wadi dog and Ben, the newest baby in the family of unknown origin with satellite ears. Each of them have their own little story to tell.

We offer you a couch and a bedroom in our home. Please join our family for a day or two.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far we received guests from Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, America, Korea, Germany and are looking forward to meet many more and we loved it! From friends travelling with a cycle to those hiking through the world. We enjoy receiving our guests but are unfortunately a busy family and can't accept as many requests as we'd like to.

Interests

Oman, the culture, language, camel/horse racing, traveling to local attractions, the sea and the desert.

Breakfast on the beach at sunrise.
Living in the moment - drive past the sea and go for a swim etc.

We are all bookworms.
The taste in music varies from 60's to current music with a special interest in cultural music and of course Ilze's Bollywood music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We packed up our lives as a family and left South Africa within weeks, after living in the same home for 22 years. A leap of faith that worked out perfectly. We went from survival to living life to the full and from planning everything to enjoying the moment.

Teach, Learn, Share

We learn from everybody around us, the enthusiasm of the young people, the experience from the mature people. The way different cultures function. The amazing differences between the continents and yet we all have so much in common.
