I've had great couchsurfing experiences in the US so far. I've stayed in a bunch of couchs (LA, San Fran, Portland, Seattle and Knoxville-TN). All of them with amazing hosters.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've hitchhicked through the US west coast from LA to Seattle. I also hiked a small section of the PCT and spent a couple days alone in the wilderness of Sierra Nevada.
