About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teach and learn. Try to find time to go slowly.

ABOUT ME

I'm a sociology graduate student studying environmental movements and markets. I love to travel, have recently spent time in Colombia, and seem to find myself bouncing around in the US a lot, especially between LA and NYC. I ride bikes, enjoy a good beer, cook as much as I can, explore LA, and love to learn from fellow travelers. If I can host you I will.

For two-wheeled travelers, I'm also a cycle tourer. '08 was trans-Canada, '09 Lisbon to Zurich, '10 across Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and Santa Barbara, CA to SF, CA (along highway 1). No tours '11 year, but I'll be back on the bike soon enough. Another coastal tour may be in the works, or out to AZ. Abroad (Asia? Latin America?) awaits in 2012 and/or 2013.

PHILOSOPHY

Share, educate, be true, be slow and take care.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a mellow host, often very busy, but I'm happy to have you and to let you make yourself at home for a night or two. Come say hi.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my "surfing" experience is actually through an analogous site for touring cyclists. Ask me about it if you're interested. As far as CS itself, I've surfed a few times and had only wonderful experiences with great, welcoming hosts. They paid it forward; now it's my turn.

Interests

Science, sociology, cycling, education, surfing, politics, brewing, cooking, talking, reading, sipping wine, traveling. Duh.

Music, Movies, and Books

Grapes of Wrath, a terrific book, but, as you might imagine, I read mostly nonfiction these days. The Great Transformation by Polanyi, anyone? Movies aren't too great these days, but can we talk about The Wire or Six Feet Under?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A lightening storm in southern Utah; sunrise over the Cyclades in Greece, staring out over the city lights of LA from Griffith Observatory.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share recipes for great pie crust, bread, yogurt, or Indian food, talk about brewing beer, discuss and help fix bikes, develop research questions for real problems or crazy interesting phenomena, and discuss politics, the economy and society. (Duh... I'm a sociologist.)

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Canada, Colombia, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom, United States
